The Australian sports media seems encapsulated by Ange Postecoglou’s SPFL title procession.

There has been a dip in the achievements of Australian players making an impact in the European game while coaches schooled in the A-League have barely been given a look in.

Other than a very brief spell in Greece more than a decade ago Postecoglou had been overlooked. Winning the 2015 Asian Cup and a decent but unspectacular performance at the 2014 World Cup Finals only brought an offer from Japan with Yokohama Marinos.

Then as Celtic toiled for more than three months looking for Neil Lennon’s successor Postecoglou was presented to the club with no-one predicting the instant impact that he would have on Celtic and across Scottish football.

Back in Australia it seems that every triumph is being seen watched and celebrated as a triumph for the nation, a massive boost to morale across the A-League.

Last weekend the fascination was over the Glasgow derby, a draw virtually closed the door on Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s hopes.

Yesterday’s win over Hearts laid one hand on the trophy. On Wednesday the SPFL Premiership title can be claimed at Dundee United before a very special victory parade in front of 60,000 in Glasgow’s east end, with thousands more celebrating worldwide.
