Steve Davis has signed a new one year contract at Ibrox, taking him past his 38th birthday in January.

Last season the midfielder started just 13 SPFL matches but with little prospect of new signings he will be back for another season alongside Scott Arfield who will be 34 in November. Talks are continuing with Leon Balogun and Allan McGregor over new contracts.

Having finally broke their duck by offloading Nathan Patterson to Everton in January there is little sign of a player trading model operating out of Ibrox.

Calvin Bassey is the current subject of Transfer Bingo but there is a notable lack of interest in Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent who have 12 months to run on their contracts.

A year ago there was constant speculation over clubs looking at Odsonne Edouard and Kris Ajer, when they were sold Celtic banked £25m plus add-ons allowing Ange Postecoglou to rebuild his squad.

The deals for Arfield and Davis suggest that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will soon be facing the frustrations that led Steven Gerrard to quit Ibrox in mid-season.
