Danish side Midtjylland have been linked with a move to sign Giorgos Giakoumakis from Celtic.

The striker is reported to be looking for a rise on the deal that he signed 18 months ago when he joined the hoops from VVV Venlo in the Netherlands.

It is hard to see how a Danish side could offer Celtic the sort of fee that would get them to the negotiating table- and provide a significant rise on his current salary.

Translation:

FC Midtjylland in dialogue about Georgios Giakoumakis. He is a former top scorer in the Honors Division and a forward in Celtic. It’s one of those that will be really expensive if it succeeds.

Celtic and Midtjylland have done business over the years with Erik Sviatchenko moving between the two clubs and John Kennedy considered for the manager’s job with the Danish side.

Since news of his unhappiness broke Giakoumakis has had to start all five of Celtic’s SPFL matches on the bench.

Moving from Celtic to Denmark seems an unlikely move but it might be a case of one club triggering interest from elsewhere.

Giakoumakis is under contract with Celtic until May 2026.

Doesn’t make sense if his big complaint is the weather lol

  • Jim Kearney says:

Mr Giakoumakis would be better concentrating on what little football skills he possesses than that of his bank balance.

I would have thought that this was too early to re-negotiate a deal that was agreed only a year ago.
