Celtic appeared to be the victims of another baffling VAR decision during their 2-2 draw at Ibrox.

In the 52nd minute John Beaton had no hesitation over awarding the home side a penalty when Fashion Sakala clashed with a grounded Carl Starfelt. After a VAR check the decision stood, James Tavernier scored to put the home side 2-1 in front.

Should Celtic demand an explanation on Ibrox penalty decisions?

Twelve minutes later Celtic were pushing for an equaliser when Carl Starfelt had a swipe at goal. The Swede isn’t the most prolific around goal but quite clearly Connor Goldson raised both hands with contact made with the ball.

Beaton paused the game, Collum reviewed the incident and decided that no offence had been committed. In 20 SPFL matches this season the Ibrox side have yet to concede a penalty, Celtic have now had five awarded against them since VAR was introduced in October.

With two minutes of standard time left to play Kyogo Furuhashi equalised for Celtic, seven minutes were added without any further goals or penalty incidents.

Can anyone please explain the handball law ,the only interpretation I can work out is if it hits a celtic players hand it’s a penalty ,hits any other players hand blatant or not it’s not a penalty why do we even bother, celtic board have to take stand and demand an explanation

  • Jae Walker says:

Well highlighted Joe. Hope Celtic Board take the same initiative. Although I won’t hold my breath.

Enjoy Ange’s time with us this season it will he his last he won’t stand for the corruption in our game here,he will call it out as it is ending his managerial career with us and be off at the end of the season, remember these games and decisions define his career and he ain’t going to allow that to pull him down by the BLATANT CHEATING going on.

    • Jae Walker says:

You’re right SM. However, I think from Ange’s previous comments he has already raised this internally for the Board to address, (as they should), and let him get on with the football. So it is up to those bawless wonders to show some courage for a change.

  • Stevie says:

    Over to the board…..

  • Brian says:

Bawless board. Sick saying it but it’s true. Corrupt as it gets.

  • Frankie says:

It’s Celtics board duty to stop this corrupt goings on with these officials that run our game it is hard enough for the team to get buy without blatant cheating , Celtic board need to get a pair of balls, and cause a major stink.

  • harold shand says:

Goldson seems to be just immune from handballs

I’ve seen at least 3 I can think of so far this season he’s got away with

  • peter cassidy says:

  • Scud Missile says:

The board will do jackshit they are wrapped up in that 5 Way Agreement,if Ange has called the board out on this and they are giving him lip service he is definitely off at the end of the season if not before,he ain’t going to be made a mug.

  • Michael Conway says:

If it was at the other end it would have been given, shameless cheating by the refs

  • Michael says:

The referee, the judge has the final say after VAR evidence is presented to him. But when the ref, the judge takes the word of the the presenter without consideration of the evidence, then that surely can’t be right. They’ll continue to be this way unfortunately. And with willie collum operating the controls…what chance we got?

  • Dario says:

Those two officials need to be suspended especially Beaton, absolute joke and both are corrupt

  • Scouse bhoy says:

Mr nicholson please walk down from the back of the bus and stand up against what the celtic fans demand be it bias or incompetence.

  • Mike says:

When John beating is in charge of a ‘rangers’ game, they never lose.

Everyone knows he’s a big blue nose basterd, why are they putting him in charge of a Glasgow derby. All the head pricks at the top of the SPFL are all blue noses!!!!!

It was a definite penalty that’s why beaton didn’t get sent to look at it because he would of had to give it.. Celtic are always on the wrong end of the VAR.

(IF IN DOUBT CHEAT YOUR WAY OUT THAT’S THE ‘RANGERS’ PHILOSOPHY). Today was a perfect example of the cheats at work!!!!!!!!!

Editor: In January 2019 Peter Lawwell issued a statement about Beaton. The SFA laughed at him, reminded him of July 2012 and big Pete hid in a fridge.

  • the maister says:

    Beaton. It rhymes with Cheatin’.
