On the day that he has been linked with the manager’s job at Leeds United Charlie Nicholas has gone a step further by tipping the current Celtic boss as Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Liverpool.

After seven years at Anfield things seem to be going badly wrong for the German this season.

Last season he took his side to the final match in all four competitions that they entered, picking up two domestic trophies but being pipped to the biggest prizes by Rael Madrid and Manchester City.

Sitting in mid-table and after being ousted from both domestic cup trophies Liverpool are back to where they were when Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers but the manager retains overwhelming support from the fans although weaknesses are emerging.

Taking over from Klopp looks like Mission Impossible for whoever takes on the baton but writing in the Scottish Express Nicholas has all the jigsaw pieces falling into place.

Jurgen Klopp would have a major impact on Celtic.

I am not a Liverpool fan by any stretch of the imagination but I would be concerned about the possible impact managerial change at Anfield could have on Ange Postecoglou.

Would the Reds hierarchy come calling with Klopp sitting on the perimeter of things? Liverpool aren’t having a great season and by their usual standards it has been a real struggle. I know the Liverpool fans don’t want Klopp out but what happens if he turns around and says enough is enough?

Could Ange for Liverpool become reality? Ange will have ambitions as well. Yes, he is at a top club but would a big club in a big league have even more pull?

I know Ange is building something special at Celtic but I do think Liverpool would have too much pull for him. If Liverpool were to look for a manager then surely Ange would have to come into the equation.

Look at the job he has done at Celtic and the style of football he plays. Ange is also an experienced and proven manager. I hate to say this because I know a lot of my fellow Celtic fans won’t like me saying this but Ange would be ideal for Liverpool.

I genuinely think Klopp will remain in charge in the short-term. But there could change at the end of the season or if Liverpool were to be bought over. Ange is a ruthless winner and I love the way his team’s play the game.

I just hope Celtic can keep Ange up here for as long as they can. If he wasn’t considered by the Anfield board then that to me would be an even bigger surprise. Ange is bang on.

As many clubs have discovered replacing a legendary manager is almost impossible for his direct successor, that is the task waiting for whoever is Liverpool’s next manager.

Postecoglou remains on the same rolling contract that he signed when he joined Celtic in May 2021 but has regularly spoken out about the pointless nature of managerial contracts.

Next season he will almost certainly want to test his Celtic side in the Champions League, after that there may be options that catch his attention having completely transformed Celtic from the shambles of a handover passed his way by Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon.
