Des Roache has called for Liel Abada to be given a retrospective red card for his Hampden simulation.

The Celtic substitute was booked for taking a dive just outside the penalty box with absolutely no complaints about that decision from the player or any of his team-mates.

It wasn’t a good look for Abada who has excelled in the Glasgow derby but Roache and the Daily Record decided that the issue was worth highlighting.

The Record reports:

Discussing the Celtic flashpoint, Roache told Grosvenor Sport said: “It’s a bug-bear of mine and I will be consistent. He should be given a retrospective red card for cheating.

“He knew what he was doing and you could see how sheepish he looked when Nick Walsh brought out the yellow card, which is the current tariff for this offence. I really hate simulation and I think the only way you are going to get rid of blatant cheating is to make it a red card offence.”

At no time in the history has simulation been a red card offence, mostly players escape unpunished but bookings are handed out.

Nick Walsh managed to referee the match without any controversy or issues with just a flurry of yellow cards in the closing stages.

Roache’s refereeing career never reached any real heights with his final matches in the lower divisions coming at the start of the 2013/14 season.

These days he seems to be trying to create a career in the media with a regular podcast alongside Steve Conroy.

  • Enoch Moseley says:

Or to put it another way, Abada received the correct stipulated punishment for the offence, but this walloper thinks that a heavier sentence than is allowed should be imposed….. this clown has missed his true calling as a rabble-rousing politician.

Scraping the barrel a bit, there were other incidents that could and should have been highlighted but they were again’st the team that lost, what a surprise.

Des Roache rings a bell somewhere in the back of my mind. So he’s a referee of not much distinction. No wonder with claims like this!
There’s no way he can say that it was simulation by Abada. More likely he just accelerated too fast and fell over. Roache would have Red Carded him. No wonder he never made it as a referee!
