Apparently refereeing decisions balance themselves out over the course of a season… Strangely the team in third place in the SPFL Premiership have had 13 penalties awarded against them with the club a place above within two matches of completing the season without having a penalty awarded against them.
SPFL champions Celtic have had seven penalties awarded against them in 36 matches, basically one a month, every month through the season.
Kevin Clancy in January 2022 was the last referee to award a penalty against the Ibrox club with Lewis Ferguson scoring for Aberdeen in a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.
Two days later Sky Sports published a leaked letter of complaint sent to the SFA about Clancy, since then Crawford Allan’s team of referees have complied in fulL.
In 10 UEFA matches this season Giovanni van Brockhorst’s side had four penalties awarded against them.
Next season the referees will be more brazen and emboldened by the freedom they have been given to decide if their team wins games with a penalty or a sending off thrown in , now is the time to act
