Dermot Desmond has been pictured arriving at Glasgow Airport just as a report has emerged linking Leeds United with Brendan Rodgers.

The Irishman has been reported to be seeking a year out of football but now finds himself being linked with two different jobs.

With Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay reported to have met with Rodgers in Mallorca over the weekend it seemed like momentum was building towards a return to Celtic.

Suggestions of his likely backroom team had surfaced but it appears that Celtic’s interest has forced Leeds into making moves with the initial story coming from The Athletic.

Soon after publishing pictures of Desmond at Glasgow Airport The Sun reported:

BRENDAN RODGERS’ return to Celtic could be hijacked at the 11th hour, it’s being reported.

Rodgers is closing in on a second stint as Hoops boss, with majority shareholder Dermot Desmond making him his preferred candidate to succeed Ange Postecoglou.

The 50-year-old has been lined up for face-to-face talks with Desmond and Celts chief executive Michael Nicholson in London.

SunSport understands Desmond is in Scotland this afternoon, but whether those negotiations with Rodgers are due to take place tonight or have already happened is unclear.

This comes after he initially distanced himself from the Celtic job, citing a desire to take some time out of the game.

It’s understood the Parkhead club are prepared to offer him Premier League-level wages but, according to The Athletic, recently-relegated Leeds United have identified Rodgers as “the man they really want”.

Ten days after completing the domestic treble Celtic fans are frantically covering social media for jigsaw pieces as the club attempts to appoint Ange Postecoglou’s successor.

Are The Damned United in the EPL?

Are they in the CL group stages?

  • Robert Jenkins says:

Big Bren talks of wanting to come back, well, it’s now or never. He turns us down for Leeds he can never be welcomed back.

    • Charlie Green says:

Robert I for one am glad that size doesn’t matter in some areas but I am sure Brenden has never been called “Big”.

Jeezo, with all the positive spin appearing recently in the SMSM,

you’d think it was virtually a done deal with Rodgers?

The Board better not drop the ball again – like the Howe saga.

    Get it done.

Just The Scottish Sun sending out the usual Anti Celtic negative narrative to their drug of (Celtic hating) addict Sevco readership…

No wonder they do it to stay alive as it would be a truly queer Celtic supporter that would finiancially support this thru purchase or online –

Fear not – I will continue my crusade in challenging any Hoops fan that I see handing over money for one – if it’s for their old granny or grandpa then that will pass as a legitimate excuse as they might not have access to the blogs like Video Celts who thankfully expose their evil Anti Celtic agenda…

Thanks again Video Celts for this latest exposure of their sordid agenda !

I’m still not convinced that Brendan Rodgers is the right man for Celtic. His style of football is more defensive possession than attacking and that means the players will have to adapt to an entirely different way of playing. Besides that, there will always be a large contingent of fans who will not accept Rodgers back at Celtic. If they make their dissent vocal in the ground, then I foresee the players losing their momentum to win. I think Celtic need to go for someone like the Bodo/Glimt manager, a far better fit in terms of style of play than Rodgers. The club needs to be forward looking, not backward looking. Brendan had his time 4 years ago.

    Que sera sera.

I don’t know if Rodgers could actually stomach coming back to Celtic.
Let’s face it, they did him no favours when he left!
Could he actually be returning to face the same crew he so publicly fell out with? Desmond, Lawwell etc.
And he’d have to face a support who he knows are sycophantic over his return, perhaps to the point of ridicule.
Just how long could he and the Celtic Board and Supporters etc. stomach looking at each other every day, until one of them puked?

    • Tony B says:

That’s Ok. We’re used to looking at hun zombies and their toadies in the SMSM.

If you can stomach that, you can stomach anything.

      • the maister says:

here’s so many holes in this story it is like a piece of cheese after it has been attacked by a pack of rats!

  • the maister says:

    They say
“There Is No Point In Locking The Stable door After The Horse Has Bolted!”
Ange took what he wanted and moved on. Desmond has been left with egg on his face!
Now he has to personally step in to cover his, ahem,
    “Non-Executive Chairman”
    and his lack of foresight!
And he knows now that he will not get another manager with the ability of Ange Postecogolu!

  • Kevin Dunne says:

The fact that Rodgers is even considering Leeds job in championship ,says a helluva LOT ,we should be doing all we can to get Knutsen to parkhead ASAP .Rodgers would jump ship again if epl team came calling, says he wants to take time away then shows half hearted interest in Celtic job ,noo the Leeds job has him thinking ,the guy is a RAT SIMPLE . let him go to Leeds ,hope they get relegated from championship as well
