Celtic misfit in Turkish talks

Albian Ajeti is reported to be in discussions over a move to Turkish side Gaziantep.

With 10 months left to run on his lucrative Celtic contract the striker needs to try and get fixed up now rather than spend a season in the wilderness then try to revive his career next summer.

Celtic paid West Ham around £5m for Ajeti in August 2020 but the move quickly turned sour for all parties as the season unravelled under Neil Lennon.

Ange Postecoglou gave Ajeti a second chance early in his reign but after scoring three goals in two matches against Ross County and Real Betis the appearances dried up with last season spent on loan at Sturm Graz.

This morning Turkish site Gaziantep Gunes reports:

Gaziantep  FK is a candidate for Albian Ajeti, which marked 2 seasons ago but whose performance has deteriorated  . It is among the information that Gaziantep FK is also interested in the Swiss striker, who spent the last season on loan in Stum Graz and has a 1-year contract with the Scottish team Celtic, but is not considered in the squad for the new season, and that the negotiations are continuing. Celtic player Albian Ajeti is expected to come to our city on Wednesday (tomorrow) if the talks progress positively and there are no problems.

Ajeti wasn’t included in the Celtic squad that travelled to the Algarve for pre-season training and hasn’t been spotted in any training coverage from Lennoxtown.

One of the Infamous Five or six signed under Lennon and Lawwell that gave us zero return on about £26 million.
Couldn’t even fit any of them into the team.
Did anyone speak to these players before they signed? Or were they signed purely on hearsay?
