Brendan Rodgers ducked away from discussing Celtic’s January transfer plans after today’s 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock.

There can be no complaints about today’s defeat, the first in the SPFL but hardly a surprise on the back of recent struggles against Motherwell and St Johnstone.

After going in at the break a goal in front the visitors folded after the break against motivated and organised opponents.

When Celtic went behind there was barely a reaction, 10 minutes of stoppage time passed without any real threat to the home defence.

During the summer Rodgers took responsibility for bringing in seven in-experienced project type signings, only Luis Palma made the Starting XI today with loan signing Nat Phillips selected in defence ahead of Maik Nawrocki and Gus Lagerbielke.

After failing to strengthen in the summer fans are looking for a transfer statement in January, if plans are in place Rodgers was giving nothing away to Sky Sports with his focus being to work on the players that he currently has.

4 minutes 40 seconds

Question: Medium-term, does that make you think about what you will do in January in terms of strengthening the squad?

Rodgers: “Hopefully, we get some more players back, but we’re going with the players that we have now, so we have to be better. We showed in the first half some good moments of play with good threat and speed in the game. In the second half, we didn’t do that and weren’t resistant enough to any pressure in the game so that’s what we need to focus on first and foremost”.

Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada and Cameron Carter-Vickers were missing through injury today.

Over the last two seasons Ange Postecoglou had very definite January transfer plans with arrivals announced in advance of the transfer window opening.

Sounds like not much is going to happen. Nothing will change under Lawwell and Desmond

  • KC67 says:

A couple of Lawwell punts at 10pm on January the 31st would be my guess.

No problem losing the league when there’s £72 million of the fans money in the bank. Huns are able to survive and there’s no damage done to the bank balance.

Lawwell able to pacify the punters by sacking the manager and its carry on as normal.

    KC67, sounds about right.
Anyone who thought that Pistol Pete had returned just to pass around the tea and biscuits at the Board meeting well think again.
Celtic is his ‘ cash cow’ and he won’t let that go any time soon.
He’s got his beloved O@@ F@@m to save.
Now that mini Lawwell is on hand don’t be surprised when he is co-opted on to the Board to save Daddy from getting out of bed of a morning.. it’s called ‘succession planning’. Got to keep it in the family you know.
