Nicolas Kuhn’s transfer from Rapid Vienna to Celtic is being held up over a £200,000 difference in valuation.

A number of credible sources such as Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports have reported on talks being at an advanced stage to bring the German winger to the SPFL champions.

Rapid signed Kuhn from Bayern Munich 18 months ago for a fee of £500,000 but with Celtic now interested his value to the Austrian side has shot up to £3m.

This morning the Daily Record reported:

A deal is expected to happen, but the Austrian club aren’t quite ready to sign off on Kuhn’s departure as the financial specifics are still being worked out. The Premiership champions have reportedly upped their bid to £2.8million but Rapid are holding out for £3m. Kuhn didn’t take part in full training with the rest of the Rapid squad on Friday. They take on Weiner SC in a friendly this afternoon. But Kuhn won’t feature, as confirmed by head coach Robert Klauss.

With the player identified by Mark Lawwell and approved by Brendan Rodgers the finances will be agreed between Michael Nicholson and Finance Director Chris McKay.

If £200,000 is causing a problem bonus payments based on appearances or a sell-on clause should be able to push the deal over the line.

Two weeks into the transfer window it seems petty to be bargaining over £200,000 in a £3m deal with the season resuming on January 21.

Back in November Brendan Rodgers repeated his wish to add four quality additions to the Celtic squad, at the rate negotiations have taken to sign Kuhn there is every chance that the hoops will still be trying to bring in targets in the closing days of the January window.

Back to haggling over small change. We all know who is driving this. Most important season in a long time,we have a big surplus in the bank and we’re back to putting the poker face on over 200 grand.John Mcginn anyone. If Rapid pull the plug on this the board better get into the bunker

If you allow yourselves to be sucked into this nonsense, you don’t have the brains you were born with!
    Typical anti-board/anti-Celtic fear mongering.
    Media fluff.

Editor: Everything about our transfer activity is horrendous- from identification to conclusion.

This proposed move is starting to smell a bit.

This Kuhn guy is not a high profile player:

so why didn’t we have him signed up BEFORE January 1st?

And why is the invisible Nicholson now being given a namecheck?

    IF this doesn’t go through,

I’d guess it’s less to do with money – and maybe BR has put his foot down?

    Hmmm… ?

  • George Kennedy says:

I know there’s resentment across the fan base which, given recent examples I can fully understand. However, I agree with Joe, to my mind Celtic, as a club in recent times does not discuss transfers with anyone till the deal is done. This nonsense is anti-Celtic driven!!

    • BlackSox says:

If it’s true that £200K is causing a problem then Lawwell should remember how his miserable penny-pinching, for the sake of £250K, lost McGinn to us.

If the player is thought good enough to hit the ground running for us, then just get him in.

  • Robert Lindsay says:

    Absolute nonsense on this

  • Tommy McNairn says:

Biscuit tin mentality back.ABSOLUTELY disgusting if true.

  • Dan Cowie says:

Hope I’m wrong but if this player is real quality, I would have thought a lot more clubs would be trying to sign him at such a low price figure as £3m.
Average player is about as good as I am expecting for that money.
