David Dickinson makes a rapid return to Paisley on Sunday, taking charge of back to back St Mirren home matches with Celtic visiting in the Scottish Cup.
With eighteen different referees having handled top flight matches this season it seems odd that the same referee is given successive home matches involving the same club, on January 27 the Saints lost 1-0 to Philippe Clement’s side with Cyriel Dessers scoring the only goal of the game in the first half.
In contrast, Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie will be the first time this season that Dickinson has been in charge of Celtic, it will be his third match refereeing at the SMISA Stadium. Alan Muir will be on VAR duty.
Celtic have beaten St Mirren twice this season, the most recent being on January 2 when they won 3-0 in the final match before the winter break.
Stephen Robinson’s side have been struggling over the last two months but did pull off an impressive 3-0 win away to Hibs on Saturday, tomorrow night they are at home to Dundee.
Sunday’s cup tie will be shown live by Viaplay Sport and is one of only two cup ties where VAR will be in operation.
