The British Broadcasting Corporation are providing Kris Boyd with a lucrative trip to the World Cup Finals.
The BBC is entirely funded by license payers.
It will be a thinned down party that the BBC takes to the World Cup with much of their coverage based in Glasgow and Manchester.
Boyd hasn’t worked for the BBC at all this season but for reasons unknown the state broadcaster has decided to pay for his insights into international football.
The announcement that Boyd will be on the BBC comes less than a week after his unhinged reaction to Celtic being awarded a penalty at Motherwell.
Sky Sports were so concerned about their top Scottish pundit that they left him out of their coverage of Celtic v Hearts.
Boyd offers nothing to Sky’s coverage other than poorly concealed dislike for Celtic. His feelings on Aberdeen and Hibs is very similar.
Yesterday the state broadcaster announced their team for the World Cup jolly:
Former internationals Conor Coady, Steph Houghton and Kris Boyd are regular voices on England and Scotland matches, delivering insight and in depth analysis, while Olivier Giroud, César Azpilicueta, Thomas Frank and Gaël Clichy also feature as 5 Live’s World Cup team unpacks the tournament’s biggest talking points.
And with that the BBC charter can go in the bin. Trashed by broadcasting trash. Insight and in depth analysis? Boyd?
BBC BIN ALL STANDARDS AND QUALITY THRESHOLDS
There are no standards, no quality threshold. Neil McCann and Pat Nevin are also up for a free ride.
Boyd is the lowest common denominator. He attracts an audience to Sky Sports with fans looking out for his meltdowns.
Kenny Macintyre and Alasdair Lamont have won a place to the World Cup jolly but it is believed that the level of expenditure has been greatly scaled down. Staff on duty will be expected to put in 10 hour shifts rather than living it up in expensive restaurants.
Steven Thompson and Tom English will be anchoring coverage from Glasgow. Pretending that they are having a great time when they have been overlooked.
It is especially embarrassing for English, the so called Chief Sports Writer for BBC Scotland.
Rather than being on the ground getting the stories that matter Succulent Tam will be based in Glasgow.
Pretending he has his finger on the pulse while trolling through X and his favourite Message Boards pretending that he has a deep insight into soccer.
Being snubbed for Boyd really ought to be a step too far for any reporter with a grain of self-esteem. As long as the monthly pay day arrives English will happily comply.

We are paying for that lowlife to go there bbc Scotland the sevco token gesture.
That’s the last fuckin licence fee they’re getting from me,I paid my licence because I liked BBC nature programmes and stuff like peaky blinders, and I love not having to watch fuckin inane adverts, but paying for Boyd to go to world cup is the last straw.
Big fake Kris Boyd was nowhere to be seen for Sky Sports as Celtic triumphantly won the league again on Saturday . Strange as he’s been a permanent fixture all season long at all games . Has he screamed his last rant for the SS now that the BBC is paying for his …whatever he’s got ?
Maybe Sky have booted him into touch. They have a deserved reputation for ditching people the instant they become a problem child or outlive their usefulness. We can but hope.
If he’s on the BBC hopefully he’s only summarising and not commentating – I can just switch channels at half time to avoid him. If he’s commentating it means I’ll be watching the Scotland games with the sound turned off….
The ‘Chief Sports Writer for BBC Scotland’ left at home, but Boyd makes the cut?!
That’s got to be a sore one for English? 🙂
If I paid the BBC TV Licence Tax I’d be fuming.
And I certainly won’t be watching the games via BBC coverage.
Frankie @ 9.09pm…
Naw we’re naw !
Jim Duffy – I agree their nature coverage is pretty awesome, probably cos it’s done from England though…
That’s all I watch Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch and certain episodes of Sportscene…
The latter three of Sportscene were pretty awesome…
All free as well !!!
In depth analysis ! I near choked on my cornflakes ! They are joking . Not only is it the public taxpayer paying for the jolly but they are taking the piss out of the taxpayer at the same time.
Go on strike, pay em fuck all.
