Scott Brown has revealed some background to his ‘secret’ meeting with Robbie Keane in Budapest.
The football bubble doesn’t require too much to put a story together with the pieces all lined up for Celtic’s new manager.
Brown and Keane are former team-mates, Celtic are looking for a manager with three Irishmen in charge of the club over the last six years.
Former Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo has put all the pieces together with headlines in midweek reporting a new development as Celtic look for a permanent manager.
While most of the parts of the story are true there is nothing to suggest that a plan of action for Celtic 26/27 was being put in place.
Footballers are natural networkers, they move club frequently with Spurs, Liverpool, Leeds, Wolves and West Ham all on Keane’s CV.
With Brown appearing on Not Another Football Podcast Jackie McNamara threw in the meaningful question nice and early.
McNamara: What’s this about Robbie Keane getting the Celtic job with you as his assistant?
Brown:
Has everybody been throwing that about? So about two months ago I texted Robbie saying ‘what’s the chance of me popping over to come and see you’, you have to do a a broad experience, going to see the culture and stuff at a different club.
So obviously everyone’s then put try to put two and two together. I’ve left… Robbie’s floating about… and to be fair he’s done a fantastic job and Glassy (Steven Glass, assistant to Keane) is there as well.
I played with Glassy at Hibs. So it was great because me and Johnny Hayes both went over because we were the last two to finish this part of our Pro License. So, it has obviously gained a lot of speed.
After leaving Ayr United it seems that Brown is enjoying some time out of football.
Golf, the other passion in his life is getting plenty of his attention but a return to football is bound to be on his mind.
LIFE AFTER CELTIC FOR SCOTT BROWN
When he left Celtic in the summer of 2021 he joined Aberdeen as player/assistant manager to Glass. When Glass was sacked Brown retired from playing with Jim Goodwin taking over at Pittodrie.
Spells in management at Fleetwood Town and Ayr United have provided experiences rather than success with Brown’s next move critical.
It is natural that he will be linked with a return to Celtic but four months on from sacking Wilfried Nancy there is no news on what the club is doing.
Right now the club can say that any comment or movement regarding a manager would be distracting with two trophies up for grabs.
On May 23 that argument no longer stands up.
In a World Cup summer time is going to be very limited with the 26/27 season rapidly coming around.
