The striker scored 15 goals last season for Qarabag but interestingly five of them came in the Champions League.
The need for strikers is glaring at Celtic. During 2025 the goals of Kyogo Furuhashi, Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn were sold off with only Shin Yamada signed as a replacement.
The January loan deals for Tomas Cvancara and Juinor Adamu failed to work out.
Last season Duran scored 9 goals in 30 league matches but the highlight was clearly in the Champions League.
The 24-year-old scored in group stage matches against Benfica, Ajax and two against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Those goals earned Qarabag a Round of 16 Play Off but that ended in a 9-3 hammering although Duran scored at St James Park.
On Friday morning David Friel of The Sun broke the news that negotiations with Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham had progressed.
He followed that up with news on Duran late on Friday night:
CELTIC could make a summer move for Qarabag forward Camilo Duran.
Hoops gaffer Martin O’Neill is set to sign at least two new strikers in this window.
SunSport understands Colombian Duran has emerged on Celtic’s radar after an impressive debut season for the Azerbaijani side.
The 24-year-old netted 15 goals for Qarabag last term, including five in the Champions League.
Duran also weighed in with ten assists and has attracted strong interest from across Europe and South America.
His Qarabag contract has two years to run and the Azerbaijani side would want at least a club record £2million.
That fee seems on the light side for someone that scored five times in the Champions League. No Celtic player has ever scored five goals in one season in that competition.
By comparison Ben Nygren scored four goals in the Europa League with Reo Hatate scoring three.
Despite those goals Duran didn’t make it into Colombia’s World Cup squad.
CELTIC SHORT ON GOAL SCORERS
That should make it easier for Celtic to do business but so far there has been no concrete signs of recruitment from the club.
Even the structure is unclear with no mention of a replacement for Paul Tisdale.
On January 5 it was announced that the former Exeter boss had left his role as Head of Football Operations.
As things stand Celtic’s striking options consists of Callum Osmand and Yamada. Johnny Kenny missed the end of last season at Bolton through injury.
With pre-season starting on Friday the clock is moving quickly towards the 26/27 season.
Celtic’s first pre-season match is on July 7 away to Shelbourne. The SPFL opener is on August 3 at home to Dundee.
