Anthony Joseph has tweeted that Celtic are in talks with West Ham over the sale of Arne Engels.
The midfielder has been expected to be on the move this summer but not to a club in the Championship.
West Ham have previously been linked with Reo Hatate and Ben Nygren.
Now it appears that they are negotiating a deal with Celtic for Engels.
Whether the player would be interested in a move to the second tier of the English game is a different matter.
Since the turn of the year Engels has been linked to Atalanta and renewed interest from Nottingham Forest.
UPDATE: West Ham are in talks to sign Celtic midfielder Arne Engels.
A number of Premier League clubs also hold an interest in the Belgium international, with Nottingham Forest having a £25m bid rejected on Deadline Day in February.

News of West Ham’s interest in Engels is bound to be put to Martin O’Neill at today’s media conference.
On top of Everton’s reported interest in Alistair Johnston.
CELTIC THE SELLING CLUB
Alongside Daizen Maeda hitting form the return of Engels and Johnston was a major factor in driving Celtic to the domestic double.
With Maeda now at Ipswich losing either or both of the other two would e a major blow.
Celtic signed Engels from Augsburg two years ago in a record £11m deal.
Instantly he slotted into the midfield playing a key role in an impressive run in the Champions League.
Like most players last season was more hit and miss. His absence was felt through the spring-time before a timely return.
With Celtic’s willingness to discuss a move now public knowledge there could be other interested clubs making contact.

Tellingly Moretto has over 520,000 followers on Twitter which doesn’t come easily. Clearly he has strong connections.
Lazio have previously been linked with Engels, a departure this window now seems inevitable.
Celtic appear to be still in negotiations with German side Padenborn over a deal for Mika Baur for a fee in the region of £5m.
