Team News: O’Neill makes five Celtic changes as Carter-Vickers drops out of squad

Martin O’Neill has made five changes to the Celtic side that beat St Mirren on Saturday for tonight’s match against St Mirren.

Yang Hyun-jun is on international duty with Sebastian Tounekti taking his place on the left wing.

Elsewhere Sam Johnstone makes his debut replacing Vil Sinisalo in goals.

In defence Dane Murray makes his first start of the season in place of Cameron Carter-Vickers who is missing from the squad.

Elsewhere Oliver Sorenson and Kasper Hogh replace Ben Nygren and Camilo Duran with the latter duo listed as substitutes.

It is a bold selection from O’Neill which will test the squad depth after six signings were made in the final 36 hours before Celtic announced their squad for the Europa League with UEFA.

O’NEILL’S CELTIC MISSES OUT ON ST JOHNSTONE LAST SEASON

While O’Neill was going through his dramas at Celtic last season St Johnstone took a one season visit to the Championship.

Simo Valakari was appointed when relegation was looking likely, the Perth side stuck by him and were rewarded by instant promotion.

So far back in the SPFL Premiership St Johnstone have looked the part.

Seven points from five matches is a solid enough start. Their only defeats were by a single goal away to St Mirren and Hearts which augers well for the season ahead.

Last season Livingston were well out of their depth by the time that autumn came around.

It looks unlikely that St Johnstone will suffer that fate which piles the pressure on to Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Falkirk who have been slow out of the blocks.

A win for Celtic would put them six points ahead of Hearts but the Edinburgh side has two matches to play before Celtic’s next Premiership match.
