Shim Mheuka has revealed the role that Mikey Moore played in his move to Celtic.
The teenagers have a lot in common, coming through the ranks with the England youth sides and looking to make the big EPL breakthrough.
Chelsea and Spurs almost have a separate operation working the loan market as they identify the next step attempting to develop first team players.
Coming out of Academy football in London the demands are huge but Moore seemed to develop his career with a season at Ibrox.
Finishing third in the SPFL Premiership wouldn’t have been part of the plan but on an individual basis it is all about progress.
Moore was a first pick in the second half of the season, started the current season for Spurs and is now out on loan at Cologne.
For a teenager in London environment can be critical when they move out on loan.
MIKEY MOORE GIVES HIS APPROVAL TO GLASGOW
Most of their time will be spent away from the club, on that score Glasgow met with Moore’s approval.
Discussing the build up to his Celtic move, The Sun reports Mheuka saying:
I’ve been part of the England squads with Mikey so I watched his games from last year.
He’s a good friend of mine so I spoke to him before I came here and he told me it’s a beautiful city and I’d really enjoy it.
It’s more about what’s best for me than what Mikey has done and what was the best next step in my development but it helped that Mikey is a good friend and did really well.
He told me I was on the wrong side of Glasgow but I told him, no I’m on the right side of the city!
In just two substitute appearances Celtic fans have warned instantly to Mheuka.
Loan signings are generally greeted with scepticism with fans questioning the wisdom of development work for other clubs.
After the multiple problems in front of goal last season Martin O’Neill is now almost spoiled for choice.
A year ago Brendan Rodgers was working with Kelechi Iheanacho, Shim Yamada and Johnny Kenny.
Now O’Neill is trying to work out the best way to make use of Mheuka, Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran.
Success for Mheuka will be playing time, goals and the medals that proved beyond his mate Moore.
Although he has been left out of Celtic’s Europa League squad he should have plenty of playing time.
Being fresh for Sunday fixtures on the back of Europa League Thursday’s could turn out to be in his favour.
