3rd May 2026; Easter Road, Edinburgh, Scotland: Scottish Premiership Football, Hibernian versus Celtic; Brian Wilson, Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay of Celtic
John Higgins has shared his frustrations and anger at the Celtic board on a podcast.
The four times World Snooker champion is a lifelong fan and has been the guest of the club on a couple of occasions.
After winning his first World Title in 1998 he was presented to the fans before the title clincher against St Johnstone. Higgins later confirmed that the match that stopped their 10 was as nerve jangling as anything that he has faced at the Crucible.
Coming from Wishaw and surviving through the bleak years of the nineties Higgins knows the good and the bad times.
Being the top team in Scotland in 2026 is no big deal. Celtic’s nearest rivals have been on the go for 14 years with just three trophies in the record books.
Europe is the only yardstick of success for Celtic. Other than season 24/25 it has been a regular diet of misery, failure and under performance.
Sinking to 35th place in the 36 team Europa League has taken Higgins and other Celtic fans towards breaking point.
@celtic_jaime Ive been saying for ages we need more high profile celtic fans from other sports, music and the movie/tv industry calling these charlatans out, we need a bigger voice other than the ordinary fan

WELL SAID JOHN HIGGINS
Higgins could easily play the celebrity card, be a regular in the Directors Box, get a role in the Christmas advert and share his views on Irn Bru with Gerry McCulloch. That side of Celtic doesn’t interest him.
He’s rather watch competitive Champions League nights. Victories over RB Leipzig, Slovan Bratislava and YB Bern. To go toe to toe with Bayern Munich over 180 minutes.
A seat in the Celtic gravy train watching Ferencvaros and Celta Vigo celebrating doesn’t interest him.
It is only a small measure but with Rod Stewart and Higgins voicing criticism the message might start getting through to those closest to Michael Nicholson.
This isn’t bolshy ultras, entitled fans or podcasters that are calling out the failings of Celtic at every level.
In June 2023 Nicholson told his only media conference that Celtic’s ambitions were to be world class in everything that they do.
Executive remuneration appears to be the only area that Celtic excel in.
Meanwhile fans are still waiting for an update on Celtic Connect, the great new initiative to patronise fans into thinking that they have a value beyond their Bank Accounts.

John would not be out of place standing in the North Curve.
John’s brother Jason is one of the HomeBhoys podcast… John occasionally appears … definitely no board apologists on that pod !!
It’s guys like John Higgins -names who carry ‘clout and heft ‘ – who should be giving it large to this current inept immoral board as the fans are totally fed up with their administration .
The more names who do likewise the merrier and whose stature influences the average fan in our time of disgust and dismay ! If public eye figures complain and show their aversion to this board like Mr Higgins then it really can be the ‘writing on the wall ‘ of failures for this unelected club of grey suits .
Someone needs to put a mic in front of Rory mcalroy, it’s there any other champion golfers who support the hoops?
Take the discussion into the club house where the moustache feels comfortable
Any reasonable person would have expected the Board to have been
significantly more proactive with improving supporter (customer) relations
in recent years.
It is a plc business after – but is being run like a private, family business.
Desmond is 76 years old.
In the continued absence of any meaningful change,
we might have to just wait until he either sells up, or goes to meet his maker?
And the risk remains that his boy maintains the family control…? 🙁
Another celebrity Celtic supporter after them then…
They won’t like that one fu**in iota for sure !
The people in charge of this club are all successful business men. and the business model is speculate to accumulate. There is not speculation in Celtic only the accumulation of money into the boards bank account. Time they got rid of their business heads and returned their dividends back to the club so that Celtic can prosper on the field, as any proper Celtic fan would do.
Only DD is successful or a businessman.
Nicholson and McKay are bang average at their real jobs and getting paid three times what they’d earn working 50/60 hour weeks as a lawyer or accountant. They put in 20 hours floating around Celtic waiting on instructions from afar.
Brian Wilson is an old unionist windbag only of interest to The Scotsman and BBC Scotland.
Sharon Brown and Brian Rose are on the gravy train.
Mark Keane is carrying on the business built by his father.
There is zero business acumen or football knowledge on the Celtic board, it shows.
