Roger Hannah of The Sun has scooped the news that Mark Lawwell has found another job in football!
According to Hannah, Lawwell Junior is a senior scout in ‘Chelsea’s talent spotting team’.
Chelsea fans can relax, it is unlikely that Kwon Hyeok-kyu, Marco Tilio or Odin-Thiago Holm will be heading to Stamford Bridge anytime soon.
Interestingly enough, in September 2025 a source close to the Celtic board told Hannah all about Celtic’s concerns about Brendan Rodgers:
CELTIC insiders believe boss Brendan Rodgers wants out of Parkhead after a split over summer signings.
SunSport understands senior figures at the club are concerned he’s trying to “engineer his exit”.
Peter Lawwell resigned as Celtic Chairman three months after that report was published.
The entire report was simply a smear on Rodgers. The Sun remains a favoured media partner of Celtic. During the summer David Friel broke the exclusive news of Celtic’s interest in signing Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh
Lawwell Junior apparently resigned from Celtic in April 2024 having masterminded recruitment over the course of three windows. In January 2024 Rodgers had taken full control to bring in Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah.
Alistair Johnston was an outstanding signing.
Others recruited by Lawwell Junior include Sead Haksabanovic, Alexandro Bernabei, Yuki Kobayashi and the horrendous Summer 2023 intake including Luis Palma and Maik Nawrocki.
Now after two and a half years out of football it seems that Chelsea have found a job for Pete’s laddie.
Dramatically earlier tonight in The Sun Hannah announced:
MARK LAWWELL has returned to frontline football in a top role in Chelsea’s talent spotting team.
The former Celtic recruitment chief has been appointed as senior scout working within the Blues’ first-team scouting and recruitment department.
Strangely there is no mention of this announcement anywhere on the Chelsea website.
SunSport understands Lawwell has already started work at Stamford Bridge and is operating to identify stars for boss Xabi Alonso.
Good luck with that Xabi, it looks a 50-50 call if you’ll still be in the job by the time January arrives.
Lawwell previously worked for the City Football Group (CFG) for a decade, including a spell as their head of scouting and recruitment.
Now we are just getting silly here.
MARK LAWWELL- HEAD OF RECRUITMENT AT MANCHESTER CITY AT THE AGE OF 28?
Everyone likes to embellish their CV and Linkedin profile to an extent, some go way too far.
There is no known record of Lawwell Mini in football before his decade at Manchester City.
How strange that no one in the Scottish media had noticed that the 28-year-old son of the Celtic CEO had landed a top job at Manchester City.
Hannah, his contacts and senior sources weren’t so sharp back in the day.
The strongest mention of Lawwell’s role at Manchester City came in 2016 from the UEFA website

Content manager or Head of Scouting and Recruitment? Six years later Lawwell Mini was on the Celtic payroll.
Again there isn’t a single mention of Lawwell Mini on the Manchester City website.
Fortunately screengrabs were taken before the Linkedin profile was deleted.
