Chris Sutton brilliantly took out and exposed the stupidity of Kris Boyd ahead of Celtic’s 2-0 win at Motherwell.
Some might say that is an easy task but generally on live TV Boyd gets an easy ride of it.
Most Saturday’s he is in the company of Paul Merson in the Sports Saturday feature which is never likely to be mistaken for a MENSA gathering.
It is all low brow matey banter of the type that Ally McCoist has made a career out of, whenever anything of substance appears it is time for a wacky gag and move on. Oh how they laughed.
Boyd was at Fir Park to gloat at more problems for Celtic.
Specifically on the park, hopefully for fans and spilling into interviews with Martin O’Neill.
Turkey teeth Boyd was there to play up to his Ibrox gallery. Having a laugh and giggle at Celtic after more than a decade of almost constant misery.
Sutton is no Merson. He can fink things through, construct an argument and react to the cheap jibes from someone like Boyd.
It was another classic Sky Sports mismatch in the build up to the match at Fir Park.

Discussing the stand off between Celtic fans and the club Boyd decided to broadcast how clueless he is.
Boyd: Why do they think that they deserve a voice. It’s not a hard question.
Sutton:
I don’t actually know the context with which you are comparing it…if you are comparing it to Rangers, for example, and last season wasn’t great but there was communication from the high end of the club to the fan base. That doesn’t happen at Celtic.
Why should Martin O’Neill sit through in a press conference on his own and bat away questions about fans throwing tennis balls at Dermot Desmond?
Why should he sit through that? Why is Michael Nicholson not sat there next to him and showing him support and backing him or somebody on the board?
He’s just being hung out at the moment. He was the glue which held everything together last season. He absolutely was. Why does he want to put himself through that?
And from that there was no comeback from Boyd.
His credibility as a pundit is on a par with his scoring record against Celtic. Blink and you’ll have missed it.
Sutton and a few other pundits are capable of holding an informed, constructive discussion. Not Boyd.
There are massive issues going on around Celtic. The bigger they become the more that the club retreats.
Led by a CEO that is in his sixth year on that salary having spoken out just three times in his current role.
In June 2023 he was the other guy as Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell came back together.
Twice in December 2025 Nicholson shared his excitement and enthusiasm for Wilfried Nancy with Gerry McCulloch.
That judgement and those interviews help explain why Nicholson has earned the nickname of Mute Mike.

If he’s not being given free rein to rant and rave and bitch about how bad his pet project theRangers is playing and their head coach not being up to the job every season by Sky Sports in Scotland then he’s attempting to cause serious problems for Celtic fans with his uneducated and unresearched questioning on the same SS channel ? All aided and abetted and allowed by Ms Barbour who hosts the Scottish programme ? He is given Carte Blanche to attempt to cause Celtic FC and fans all kinds of verbal diarrhoea disruption …all in the name of neutrality ! Why is this guy given airtime when Celtic are playing ? It’s obviously a pre agreed decision from Sky Sports to try to gather as many viewers as possible with his appearances ? The problem being is that most folks turn down the volume when Boyd opens that enormous false toothed mouth of his so are really not that interested in his diatribes . ‘Pppaarrrrppp… can I get more beans Mr Taggert ‘ like in the famous camp fire scene in Blazing Saddles ?
