Kris Commons Celtic newsKris Commons wants to be Neil Lennon’s January impact signing- again.

Commons joined Celtic twelve months ago from Derby County and never looed back from his debut goal against Aberdeen at Hampden in the League Cup semi-final.

After a nightmare start to the season he showed some of his sharpness as a substitute against Dundee United and is determined to regain last seasons form.

“It’s a challenge for me to emulate what I did last year,” he admitted. “But this is the sort of time I came into Celtic last year and, hopefully, I can return to that level.

“If I can get the fitness levels up, the match fitness levels, to where they were last year, I’d have no hesitation in saying I’ll start scoring goals again.

“I was an unknown quantity when I first came to Celtic. Not many people knew about me.

“It was about proving a point and working that extra bit hard to try and make people notice. Now it’s time to try and emulate that.

“Hopefully, the goals and the performances will come as the work-rate picks up.”

Hopefully Kris can get his fitness levels up and he would be like a new signing for us considering he’s really not played yet.

This is what makes the difference between a good player & a great player. Great players will do the business year in / year out…Commons has a lot of work to do to reach the level he set last season. I’d love to think he can do it but I have serious doubts. We could certainly do with his goalscoring ability as we currently rely much too heavily on Hoops & Stokes. Brown & Samaras will never score anywhere near enough goals, while young Forrest has already contributed more than most thought possible.

We will need fresh impetus to carry us through the next few important months. We either have to hope Commons can get back to past levels or bring in someone to share the goalscoring burden.

As Lennon spoke about a possible experienced old head….how about Rudi Skacel from Hearts ?
He has a good left peg, will score more than Sammy or Brown put together..knows the SPL, won’t cost much in transfer fee or wages ?

He won’t put bums on seats but better than some of the names suggested or those on EPL wages.
