Alex Salmond Hearts newsCeltic have put Alex Salmond firmly in his place by telling the publicity seeking First Minister that they do not depend on Rangers to prosper.

Salmond told David Frost that Celtic required Rangers to prosper in an interview to be broadcast tomorrow by Al Jazeera.

Before the interview is broadcast Celtic have issued a statement putting the out of touch MSP for Banff and Buchan in his place.

The statement reads: “We are very disappointed with the First Minister’s claims that Celtic ‘need’ Rangers and that Celtic ‘can’t prosper unless Rangers are there’, That is simply not true.

“In a series of interviews given just three days ago we made it abundantly clear that Celtic has a well defined strategy and business plan independent of the fortunes of any other club. That remains the case.

“The predicament of Rangers is clearly a serious and complex matter with a whole range of possible outcomes. However we are extremely well qualified to make our own position clear and have no wish to see that being misrepresented for political reasons.”

Salmond has spoken out about the need to ensure that Rangers continue in business without commenting on the £9m due to HMRC since the time of Craig Whyte’s takeover in May.

That figure could pay the salary of 360 primary school teachers for a year at a time when local authorities are being forced to cut back on education and other front line services.

    Excellent statement by Celtic.

This tit is trying to make political capital out of this and every politician in the other Party’s should be exposing him for doing so. He is a wee rat and I am glad Celtic have not wasted any time in giving him a wee slap.

I think this is the first statement by Celtic on this matter and I expect more strong words.

The Scottish government doesn’t receive any tax monies, although if we were independent we would.
I have to agree Joe, Alex Salmond should have steered clear of this, but with Labours Margaret Curran and Brian Donohue stealing a march on him, I guess he thought that he had to act in some form.
Its sad that there are still Celtic supporters voting for a westminster party like Labour and think they have our interests at heart.

Given the SNP’s cack-handed imposition of the offensive Irish songs act, mysterious destruction of figures on attacks on Catholics and now their explicit backing for a bunch of tax-dodgers who have starved Celtic and other teams of money & success by their cheating, I’m not sure there’s a party to vote for any more.

  • Scott says:

Jocky Bhoy: Yes there is ABSNP (Anyone But SNP), just look at who is standing next to them at the electon and vote for 2nd placed candidate.

We need to get rid of this shower, they are as corrupt at the Govan mob.

    Cheers

I’m sick to the pit of my stomach of all this “Huge Scottish institution” stuff already. Woolworths was a huge British institution which I really miss (mmmm…pick & mix!) and they employed far more people than the Begging Bowl XI do. Where were the desperate cries of help for that institution? More than 17,000 paying punters attended this institute of a week.

I already knew most buns were deluded, but the nonsense that has come out over the last few days is impossible to digest. They seem to think that the only downside is the 10-point penalty and a bit of a downsizing in running costs then it will be business as normal! Hunbelievable delusion! Mr Taxman is coming and he won’t let u off with a slap on the wrist.

I think my jelly is just about set. Toodles.

Salmond cannot rely on many, if any, independence votes from the tax dodGers. Appearing to support them in their hour of need might buy him a few votes.
He doesn’t give a shit where he gets them, or who he slanders to get them.

    Vote Celtic and Lennon #1

This is the same guy nearly crying a couple of months back about the cost of policing Old Fi%m games. The poor taxpayer was picking up the pieces, the police were stretched to the limit and the hospitals were overrun and this was all at the expense of the hard working taxpayer.

Now we are supposed to allow a club who has CHEATED tens of millions from the taxpayer to escape not only unpunished, but to actively help them avoid punishment and repayment. All so we can go back to burdening the poor taxpayer again?

We really need to expose these hypocritical morons.
