SPL block Rangers signing of Daniel Cousin

|

SPL Celtic newsThe SPL have rejected Rangers attempt to sign Daniel Cousin.

Despite going into administration on Tuesday the club announced the signing of Cousin on Monday on a reported wage of £7,500 per week.

A transfer embargo is also applied to any team in administration with the SPL announcing tonight that they have blocked the registration of Cousin.

The SPL statement reads: “The SPL was at 3.26pm today presented with a contract between Daniel Cousin (“the Player”) and Rangers FC dated 17 February 2012, signed by the Player and by Paul Clark, the Joint Administrator of The Rangers Football Club plc (in Administration).

“In terms of SPL Rule A6.20, the consent of the Board of the SPL was required for the Registration of the Player with the SPL. The Board of the SPL declined to give that consent.

“Accordingly the Player is not Registered with the SPL and is not eligible to Play in SPL Matches. Rangers FC have the right to appeal this decision to the Judicial Panel of the Scottish FA.

Surely they will not have the audacity to appeal the decision. What will the reaction be from the other clubs if they appeal especially Hearts, Dunfrmline, ICT and United. I really hope they appeal as his contract will be to 30 June, approximately 18 weeks @ 7500 = 135,000 plus bonuses (ha), say 150,000. Just about enough to pay Dunfermline and Dundee Utd. If they appealed it would ne hilarious.

Well said John, my thoughts exactly. How on earth can they think they can sign a player on £7.5k a week after going into Admin while some creditors would sit and get next to zilch such as other SPL Clubs

Frankly Duff and Phelps are a disgrace and are clearly showing no interest in the Creditors which is shocking and I would be surprised if HMRC were not watching events and wondering if D&P are indeed the right people to be carrying out this role.

Quite frankly, I think we should calm down. This was the most probable course of action, that the SPL would deny the registration. I do not believe that any football minded person thought that he would be signed. If they appeal, so be it. If they sign him, who cares, and when we win the league all the better for us bhoys.

Brian, how is it a disgrace? If Celtic were in this position, would we not do the same thing and try our luck? The creditors haven’t even done anything yet and you are already shocked and appalled at them???

The dogmatic view of some of our bhoys is unusually annoying. The constant call for justice and in the same brief scream of corruption is immature and irrational. Due process has not yet taken place. Duff and Phelps were agreed to by all parties involved.

How about we just get behind Neil, the team, and SUPPORT the CELTIC NATION and sit back and watch the h*ns implode in a dignified manner.

      USMCBhoy,

We are all entitled to our opinion. Its a disgrace because they are adding to their cost base when they should be trimming their cost base in order to settle with creditors. Remember they are in Administration because they could not meet their coming debts and 3 days later they are trying to add to their staff which is undoubtedly to the detriment of Creditors. Talk is they have to register him as they have to honour his contract.

Sorry if you don’t see it that way and you think its immature. Yes D&P were agreed to by all parties but not initially, their first major contribution is to completely go against the normal course of action in dealing with a Co. in administration. If the money is available to pay an additional players salary then it should be getting used to pay creditors. There will be many a creditor out there watching these events who will be scratching their heads in disbelief.

Remember we were once 15 points behind and clawed it back, its not entirely beyond the realm of possibility that they could claw back 14 points and any advantage they could gain by having an extra player regardless of his weight, ability etc should be knocked on the head right away. Picture the last OF game of the season, we/ve just blown 4 or 5 draws and they’ve got a chance to get within a couple of points because the adversity of their situation has rallied them to go on a winning streak and Cousin scores a goal off his backside to win it for them, how magnanimous would you be then?

Even hacks like Daryll King tonight on Talksport were incredulous about this, so Im sorry but its bang out of order and I dont apologise for having that train of thought.

I wonder how much Cousin paid the SFA to stop this move?
