Tony Watt hopes that his ‘bad game’ at Tannadice won’t have cost him a place on the bench against Barcelona.
The 18-year-old watched Celtic’s defeat in the Nou Camp from the stand but has been Neil Lennon’s most potent striker in the three matches since then with Gary Hooper carrying a hamstring strain and Miku struggling to show his La Liga form.
Watt drilled home his fourth goal of the season yesterday at Tannadice and impressed with his powerful running and hold up play.
Only his manager knows if that is worth a starting slot against Barca with the modest striker refusing to build up his hopes.
“I don’t think I’ve done enough to earn a start against Barcelona on Wednesday,” Watt admitted.
“To be fair, I don’t think I did as well as I could have against Dundee United, I got an assist and a goal, but I don’t think my all-round play was the best.
“Obviously we’ll need to wait and see, but hopefully I’m on the bench at least. We have a lot of injuries, but we have a big squad and everyone is a good player, so hopefully the guys selected can do as well as they can.”
Watt added: “I’m critical of myself, but it’s just because I know I can do better than that. As a striker, you can score two or three goals without playing well and still get recognised for hitting the net.
“But I know I can do better and hopefully that’s the bad game out the way for me now.”

great attitude,should be in team v barca,other players in team v united played far worse & need to take a long hard look at themselfs.
If only some of the older “madonnas” had his maturity we could be …….well who knows.

Being far to hard on himself but means he wants to improve all the time. I’d play him ahead of Hooper against Barca.
Tony has a really good attitude and is maturing rapidly. His so-called ‘bad’ game was so much better than many other players good games. He was man of the match with a goal and an assist. Of course he could play against Barcelona; I would have absolutely no worries about him. He is very direct and would trouble their defence. I was also extremely impressed at Miku’s display.
