Leigh Griffiths is set to give Celtic a Happy New Year by returning to action against Partick Thistle on Saturday.

The 25-year-old hasn’t played since scoring against Inverness Caley Thistle on November 29 but looks set to kick off the new year against the in-form side of the Premiership.

There is a good chance that he will be back so that is a positive,” Ronny Deila revealed when asked about Griffiths availability for the weekend.

With 19 goals to his name the former Hibs striker has carried the main goal threat as Celtic chase a fifth consecutive title.

Celtic go into the new year level on points with Aberdeen but with two games in hand, at home to Hamilton and away to Dundee, the hoops are in a strong position to deliver another title.

We’re in a good position and have been almost all season,” Deila added. “We now need a similar performance that we had against Hearts to get three points and get going.

You can see all over Europe that it’s not as simple as putting boots on the pitch and getting three points. It’s hard work and there are many good teams and players out there. That’s why football is so interesting because anything can happen

That’s why we’re very focused on what we are going to do and prepare for Saturday. We’re hungry to get three points, especially at home to turn that around and get going again.

Partick Thistle are a good team, well organised and they did well on Wednesday against Aberdeen. We need to be at the level we were against Hearts and improve some small details to get three points.

I have a good feeling and we’re in a good place and I’m looking forward to the game.”
