Celtic target Henry Onyekuru has been caught up in a transfer riddle that could put him out of football.

The Nigerian striker has scored ten goals in his debut season in the Belgian Jupiler League for Eupen who now seem keen to sell him on to Russia.

Clubs are entitled to accept and decline offers as they see fit but trying to force a cut for a preferred agent from a transfer is another matter entirely.

Many clubs have preferred agents for dealing with but expecting a 19-year-old Nigerian to jump ship from Belgian to Russia without having his own views represented in the deal is a step too far for most.

Africanfootball.com report the player saying: “Eupen are acting funny on my transfer. They are frustrating me and my agent for their own interest.

“They promised to let me move in January if I have a good offer, now there are good offers but they now want me to sign for their own agent before I move and they want me to sign for CSKA Moscow which I am not interested in.

“This is unfair and not acceptable.”

Unless a compromise can be agreed it looks certain that Onyekuru will remain with Eupen when the transfer window closes and at the mercy of the club owners.

Whether they are interested in developing the club or simply using players to transport cash across borders will soon become evident with Onyekuru and Celtic looking on from the sidelines.
