McCrorie’s delusions

After a dozen first team matches Young McCrorie is full of Sevco delusions.

In August 2014 the Ibrox club were one step away from the top flight of Scottish football but the last four years of the journey haven’t been much fun apart from a spell under Mark Warburton that convinced the gullibles that Martyn Waghorn and James Tavernier were top class players.

It took two attempts for Sevco to get out of the Championship with their second season in the top flight providing seven home defeats before March was over and a humiliating Europa League KO from Progres Niederekorn.

Despite that dose of reality McCrorie thinks that Sevco ought to be heading for the treble rather than trying to avoid slipping into fourth place behind Hibs, Aberdeen and Celtic.

At a club like Rangers we should be looking to win everything but right now second is bare minimum,” he told the Daily Record.

I’m not surprised Hibs and Aberdeen are pushing us for second because there are good teams in this league. It’s another challenge for us.

The fans give us their support and 50,000 come out every second week for home games. They’ve been truly amazing.

They deserve a lot more than what we have been showing. We just look at every game and try to get three points.

That’s what we should be doing but obviously right now that’s not happening. Hopefully things will pick up soon. And when you play Celtic there’s always a huge incentive. We’ve not won the Scottish Cup since 2009 and Celtic have been winning the league, so I’d love to give the fans a trophy. They deserve it.”

As long as they see Celtic as the benchmark Sevco will find themselves being overtaken by Aberdeen and Hibs, two clubs that haven’t required £20m of debt to reach their current positions.
