Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he’ll have to have a summer clear out of wingers!
The hoops boss made the comment after confirming that Celtic are in negotiations to sign Maryan Shved from Karpaty Lviv.
Shved is likely to go out on loan after signing for Celtic with Rodgers revealing that he seems to have ‘millions of wingers’ at the club.
“I haven’t seen a great deal of him,” the Celtic boss admitted to the Evening Times about Shved. “It’s something that’s come to the club through circumstance and he’s been watched and looked at but I can’t say I know a great deal about him.
“But what I have seen he’s a talent and something that will probably benefit the club in the future. We’ve got about a million wingers and don’t need another one but he’s a talent and in the summer we’ll probably lose wingers and he’ll look to come in.
“It’s an opportunity for the club to sign a young talented player but not one that will probably help us now.”
Wingers James Forrest and Scott Sinclair started the 4-0 win over St Mirren and have been the first picks since Rodgers took over.
Last night’s scorers, Oliver Burke and Timo Weah, are only on loan until the end of the season although there are suggestions that Weah may be available again next season. Mikey Johnston was an unused substitute last night.
Fringe players Jonny Hayes and Lewis Morgan appear to be under most threat from the ‘millions of wingers’ quote while Daniel Arzani is contracted until the end of next season even though he won’t be available due to injury until the start of next season.
