A report in the Daily Record claims that Sky Sports weren’t responsible for the translation of their Alfredo Morelos.

It is believed that the interview took place on Friday at Murray Park which gave the broadcaster more than three full days to prepare their coverage before giving it extensive airing across all platforms from Tuesday at 6am. Clearly it was a well prepared exercise.

Allowing a false translation to dominate so much of their output is a major error from the broadcaster.

Versions of the interview appeared on-line late on Monday evening, the 6am Tuesday publication date ensured a ready made lead story for all publishers throughout the day. Every hour it was covered on Sky Sports News with BBC Scotland, STV and the rest all happy to run with the story even though alternative translations were starting to appear online.

Alicante Celtic and Simon Edwards savaged the translation but Steven Gerrard’s reaction at Tuesday’s media conference gave it fresh legs.

All along Sky Sports appear to have been duped as the Daily Record reports:

Seething Celtic have demanded answers from Sky Sports after their interview with Alfredo Morelos was exposed as fantasy.

The Rangers striker supposedly accused Celtic fans of racially abusing him as he made his way off the pitch after being sent off in the last Old Firm derby at Parkhead.

But it later emerged what he actually said bears little resemblance to what was reported by the broadcasters – with Morelos making no mention of racism in connection with Celtic.

And we understand it wasn’t Sky who translated the interview.

Sky Sports later deleted the interview from their website after being contacted by Record Sport to highlight the glaring inaccuracies in their big exclusive.

The Record published their translation at 15.36, Celtic published their statement at 16.56 with the interview removed around 6pm.

Sky Sports have still to respond to Celtic’s statement, on February 16 they will show live the Aberdeen v Celtic match.
