At Celtic Park he was on co-commentary duty as Bodo Glimt handed out a footballing lesson to Celtic. The Norwegians were sharper, more efficient and clinical around goal.

On Thursday night Chris Sutton sat in the BT Sport studio with Johan Mjallby going through virtually a re-run as Celtic lost 2-0 to the Norwegians, crashing out of the Europa Conference 5-1.

There are other priorities for Ange Postecoglou but despite seven consecutive wins in the SPFL there were worrying signs in terms of tactics and selections in both legs of the matches against Bodo.

Every Celtic fan knows that Ange has a system and total belief in it. Europe and domestic football however are very different beasts.

Domestically Celtic can expect 65% or more possession, you can play Tom Rogic and Matt O’Riley plus two attacking full-backs. Not so Europe. In keenly contested matches chances are at a premium, you pay a price for mistakes, without defensive minded midfielders, wingers that will track back you will be in trouble.

If Celtic win the title they won’t be back in Europe for seven months. The Champions League is far less forgiving than the Europa Conference, hopefully Celtic fans will be get to compare Postecoglou’s approach to both competitions.
