John Hartson has called out Kris Boyd over his call to test out Callum McGregor’s face mask.

Last Wednesday the Celtic skipper dominated the Glasgow derby despite wearing a protective mask to protect a broken cheekbone.

It was an outstanding performance from McGregor as he inspired nine Ange Postecoglou signings, plus Greg Taylor to the victory that sent Celtic into top spot in the SPFL Premiership.

Boyd cut a forlorn figure in the Sky Sports studio as he tried to gloss over and deflect from Celtic performance and the significance of the result.

A day later he put his thoughts into writing with a column in The Sun where he made the claim which was effectively wishing injury on McGregor. Celtic supporters were furious at the comment but the reaction from the club was a tweet in which the issue would be addressed.

I think Callum himself thought the comments were in bad taste and has now commented on it.

He said that Kris Boyd has got in contact and as far as he is concerned it’s finished, but you don’t quite know if he meant a Rangers player should smash Callum McGregor in the face to test his mask.

But I don’t know what Kris Boyd is doing saying that because he never laid a glove on anyone during his career. He never got close to anyone to do that.

If he is insinuating that the players should have been more aggressive towards Callum McGregor, Callum thinks that is in bad taste, and I agree with him.

McGregor was put up by Celtic to speak to the media last Thursday and found himself back on duty today where he revealed that Boyd had contacted him with an explanation.

Nail on head BBJ. Boyd invariably shat his pants when he played against Celtic, especially for the huns, hence his lack of goals.

    A hypocrite and a coward.
