Kemar Roofe and Filip Helander have been left out of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Champions League squad.

The serial crocks have yet to surface this season and have been ruled out of their manager’s plans until after November 1 when Ajax visit Ibrox. With the World Cup break coming soon after it’s unlikely that either star will be in action until Christmas.

While Helander is out of contract in May his team-mate, former Anderlecht star Roofe, will be draining the wage bill until May 2024 with his injury record and salary ruling out the prospect of a move elsewhere.

Tom Lawrence, Ben Davies and Sicknote Souttar are in the squad but all three will miss today’s game against Celtic and are likely to sit out the first two Champions League matches on September 7 and 13.

That trio joined the wage bill in July, despite their Champions League windfall there has been no additions to van Bronckhorst’s squad since the end of July.
