Tomoki Iwata is a Celtic transfer target according to Stephen McGowan.

The Daily Mail reporter has a long established record as being the reporter closest to the decision makers inside Celtic Park.

While most speculation is about Celtic adding a striker to their squad Iwata is a midfielder and is being reported as a replacement for Yosuke Ideguchi.

There could well be movement of midfielders in January or in the summer but at the moment Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate are the established first picks with David Turnbull and Aaron Mooy pushing for a place.

Summer loan signing Oliver Abildgaard has yet to start a game, or make the bench in the last two matches, which highlights the competition for place in midfield.

In the Daily Mail McGowan reports:

CELTIC have placed Japanese midfielder Tomoki Iwata on a list of potential January signings.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder was voted most valuable player with J-League champions Yokohama F Marinos.

And Iwata has emerged as a potential replacement for countryman Yosuke Ideguchi if Celtic cut their losses on the injury-hit midfielder after one competitive appearance in the last 12 months.

Should Celtic push SFA for transparency by publishing VAR reports?

Stephen Mc Gowan is a long time employee of Tory backing and funding Daily Mail in Scotland ! I cannot understand what it is that appeals to folks in this country as a national newspaper and it’s editorial policies …Firstly the rag is anti Celtic FC . Fact ! Secondly The big sister version ,the English daily Mail ,is as disparaging as can be to Scots in general and of Scotland as a country … I would not wipe the grime from my window with the Scottish Daily Mail
