Moussa Dembele has rejected the chance to join Southampton, opting to see out his five year contract with Lyon.

The former Celtic striker has constantly been linked with a move to the EPL but has resisted the ‘lure’ of a relegation battle in the middle of winter to assess his options in the summer.

Aston Villa were linked with Dembele earlier in the transfer window but the striker is opting to stay put before making a very lucrative move in the summer.

L’equipe reports:

OL striker Moussa Dembele, at the end of his contract in June, rejected an approach from Southampton on Monday and will therefore end the season in Lyon.

With just 15 points from 20 matches new Southampton boss Nathan Jones is desperate to find more goals but will have to get on with things without Dembele.

Giorgos Giakoumakis would seem ideally suited to the English game but with just a few hours to go in the transfer window it seems certain that the Celtic striker will be joining Atlanta United of the MLS.

Have Celtic did enough in January with four signings?
