Brazilian defender Lyanco won’t be arriving at Celtic to solve the defensive injury crisis.
In midweek Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Stephen Welsh, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki would be missing for eight weeks through injury.
Recent signing Gustaf Lagerbielke suddenly found himself promoted to first choice central defender, teaming up yesterday with Liam Scales.
The hunt began to bring in an experienced stopper, possibly on loan or a free agent with Lyanco reported to be one player under consideration.
Tonight however, The Sun reports:
The transfer window closes on September 1 and the Irishman had included Southampton stopper Lyanco on his transfer shortlist.
But the Hoops will have to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements as Qatari side Al-Gharafa took to Twitter to confirm the signing of Lyanco.
Their post read: “Brazilian Lyanco arrives in Doha in preparation for joining our first team.”
Celtic now have four working days to cut a deal to bring in a ready made defender to step straight into the Starting XI.
The September fixture list includes trips to Ibrox and Livingston as well as the Champions League opener which adds to the pressure to bring in an experienced central defender.

At this rate with players who are missing through injuries we will be lucky to get a European Conference place next season and, I ain’t joking on that matter.
Anyone else think its coincidence that we have a never ending line of injured defensive players year after year when it is basically common knowledge that this has been the teams achilles heel even when they are all fit?
