Celtic Underground has given fans hope that there will be a late flurry of incoming transfers.

Four project deals were completed before the start of the SPFL season with Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke joining either side of Carl Starfelt’s departure to Celta Vigo.

From apparently a position of strength at the start of June and moving quickly to replace Ange Postecoglou an old malaise has returned with key positions needing strengthened in the final days of the transfer window.

Injuries in central defence have been a hammer blow but failing to score in successive games against Kilmarnock and St Johnstone demonstrates that the problems are throughout the squad.

Running since 2009 with over 86,000 followers Celtic Underground is well followed and respected to Twitter without ever blowing their trumpet about being In The Know.

Last summer Celtic spent around £20m on deals for Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Sead Haksabanovic and Alexandro Bernabei without losing any genuine first team starters.

  • Scud Missile says:

And there we have if true 5 players coming in before deadline day arrives, smell the minure and pressing the PANIC button with DISASTER written all over it.
Trying to get things done the cheap with splashing the cash, now we are rushed into PANIC buys which can only lead to one thing FAILURE.

  • KC67 says:

Another 5 projects between £2-3 million incoming.

  • Scud Missile says:

This is McVittie at his best one step forward and two back so that sevco are along side us.
Every tone we have had chances to put a great bit of distance between ourselves and sevco the biscuit tin man puts the breaks on,and here it is happening again.
Every time I see a photo LIEWELL his belly gets bigger and larger all the time, just like his bank balance, all £3.4 million of it a year.

  • Charlie Green says:

I am not sure if new signings are really needed unless they are European class because Celtic should be beating Kilmarnock and St Johnstone regardless. There is one thing I have noticed with the better teams and that is each player is comfortable on the ball and can run with it something that does not seem to be encouraged. This passing among the defence and midfield is utter nonsense. I like Scales but at one point he had about 30 yards clear in front of him and he stopped and turned passed sideways only to receive it back. I know it was a different position but at Aberdeen he was charging up the wing.
There is something wrong with the coaching at Celtic and they had a great chance to start anew by letting them go to Spurs.
I hate to say this but it looks like Rodgers is losing the dressing room if he had actually had it..

    • Bob (original) says:

Yes, I have started wondering if BR has lost the dressing room,

but he is just in the door, is normally a good communicator,

and a manager can’t lose a dressing room that quickly…can he?

I would totally understand if some Treble winning players have not reacted well

to some of BR’s changes – but they have to adapt for the new manager.

And it has been known for some footy players to be much more temperamental

      than professional. 🙂

The sooner the window shuts, the sooner we can all take stock,

and BR can focus on sorting out the team roles – and improving the squad spirit?

    • Scud Missile says:

That’s Roy’s tactics and they are wrong and failing miserably.

  • the maister says:

Listening to the interview, there is no doubt that Mr. Lawwell has a very wide remit at the football Club.

And listening to how he deals with the many issues he faces there is no doubt that he has been very successful in his executive remits and has been good for the Football Club.

But the success of the Club and the Company share-price will be determined by the performance and the success of the Team on the Park. Any Celtic Fan can and will tell you this!

This factor is key to the success of the whole operation of the plc! It is why fans turn up at matches and provide the funds, which are the lifeblood of the Club!

Matchday experiences means nothing if the team are not performing on the Park!

Now, Football is a pragmatic sport. Many Football Managers who are successful have played the game and have also studied Football Management, as a science.
It is the vector quality, or the marriage of both the pragmatism of the Game and the science of the Management which brings about success, for both Manager and team!

Unless as a Manager, you have an understanding of both of these aspects of the Game and can marry them both together successfully, then you are not going to succeed at the Top end of the Game!

The position of Football Manager is the single most significant position at the Football Club! It is the key to the success of the Team and therefore the Club!

Go through Celtic’s history of success, and it is always the Managers who have been the key to their teams success. That is the way it is!

So to have Manager Recruitment and Retention as an add-on, to functions of any particular Executive at the Club, is hardly befitting of the Office and the responsibility it holds and is due! In truth it demands a dedication entirely of it’s own function.

Remember Mr. Kelly used to pick the Team on a Saturday!?

He took it upon himself because he knew the importance of the Office and he is of course the one who was responsible for giving us Jock Stein and the Lisbon Lions!

    • Charlie Green says:

You are indeed correct about Mr Kelly and the power he wielded. I remember when the fans were moaning about the club he stated if you don’t like it don’t come. My father took this literally and we stopped going and such was his principles he did not return even during the glory year of the Lions.
      That “larned ” Mr Kelly…

      • the maister says:

Well, I am so glad that you missed out on the
        “Glory Years”
        of The lisbon Lions!
I don’t really know why you think that is something to be proud of?
Did you just stick your scarves into a cupboard somewhere?

  • David Hill says:

Celtic need quality striker defence and a quality keeper.. kyogo is in the wrong position Rodgers has him to fare for him to make a positive change of scoring we need to be quicker on the wings and up front to get to croses the game against Kilmarnock we had no shots on goal this is not how you win game we also need a quality playmaker in midfield would give more options just need the borde to listen
