Watch David Turnbull’s penalty claim that VAR didn’t review

While the Alistair Johnston handball and Abdallah Sima offside incident is poured over in forensic detail it seems that another penalty claim in the Glasgow Derby has largely gone unnoticed in the mainstream media.

Three minutes into the 10 of stoppage time that was played Mikey Johnston cut in from the left flank with David Turnbull moving into space in the penalty box to collect the return pass.

Johnston’s pass was perfectly timed, seeing the danger James Tavernier bundled into the back of the Celtic midfielder, sending him to the ground.

Nick Walsh never seemed to recognise the foul but as John Souttar raced out of the penalty box the referee noticed an offside flag from North Stand side assistant Callum Spence.

The push into the back of Turnbull seemed fairly obvious, the offside call appeared to be wrong with Ridvan Yilmaz, closer to Spence playing Turnbull onside.

Willie Collum could have paused play to review the incident, if Turnbull was onside as appeared likely a pitchside review of Tavernier’s challenge could well have resulted in a penalty being awarded.

  • Joe says:

I wonder why there was no VAR review of this blatant push in the back by Tavernier?

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Simply because – That’s the way the dark arts and shadowy and murky football world in NOT so Bonnie Scotland seems to operate Joe !

  • KC67 says:

Said it at the time, that was a clear penalty. Walsh ruled it out (as expected) before the linesman bailed him out with a dubious call.

Even in front of 60 thousand fans there was no way Celtic were getting a penalty.

I can only imagine Lawwell didn’t realise the monster he created with his five way agreement, then again, he’s proved himself stupid in many other ways.

    • TicToc says:

KC, Lawwell, a cunt like no other, is a feral snake but he’s not stupid. He’s made a fortune out of the 5(6)-Way same club myth. More to the point is that him and the largest single shareholder, the leech from Erin’s Isle, both cling to the hope that the, er, em, O** F***, will one day gain entry to the EPL or ESL and make the greedy baztards even more money and we’re talking huge here, even by the wealth they already have.

A pair of scumbags that shouldn’t be within a country mile of Parkhead and they’re being allowed to keep it in the family with their disgusting succession planning. Ggrrrrrrrrr!

But fraud has been committed and there’s no time bar so where there’s a will there’s a way.

On another note I’d like to wish Joe and all who visit here all the very best for the New Year and the 2 arseholes aforementioned all the very worst.

Hail! Hail! The Glasgow Celtic, sack the FN board!

  • BriBhoy says:

What was more annoying was that this incident actually made the Sportscene match highlights, it was questioned by the commentator and he even said that, on the replay, Turnbull was clearly onside. Back in the studio for the match analysis? Not a fucking peep about this one, but endless what ifs and straw clutching about their non-penalty, which Sky had cleared up hours earlier as being offside anyway. So not the “controversial” incident they bigged it up as and even McCann was reduced to whining about how the offside decision wasn’t relayed until later on, rather than being able to offer any reason why the decision not to award a penalty was wrong. Which it wasn’t.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

A Celtic supporter that pays a TV license (if there are any that actually do pay one) should file a complaint about that very good point you raise BriBhoy…

But they probably wouldn’t even get the courtesy of an excuse ridden reply !

  • Bob (original) says:

That video is a prime example which our club should be taking to the SFA

to complain about the standard of match officiating, and the ‘inconsistencies’

with the Scottish Referees’ Association members’ operation of VAR.

Complain when we have just won – so it’s certainly NOT sour grapes.

Taking that type of action – and just before the break – could be good timing,

and welcomed by the fans… and it might buy the Board some much needed credibility?

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Like yourself Bob (original) – I can only dream about that one happening…

Not a snowballs chance in hell of that even being considered sadly –

The Sevco Huns board are truly magnificent in comparison to ours especially when it comes to what they perceive as ‘sticking up’ for their club and their ‘peepil’ –

They were quick off the mark to The ‘Governing’ bodies yesterday so they were…

It’ll be interesting to see if they get the audio tapes that they’ve ‘demanded’ –

This being Scotland and Them being Sevco – They’ll get what they scream, wail, whinge and bitch for !

  • Jack says:
