For the first time in his life Neil McCann has criticised red card decisions in a match involving his favourite club.
The former Dundee boss was back in the dug-out at Ibrox last night. Unfortunately it was the away one but he still managing a friendly handshake with Danny Rohl pre-match.
NO IBROX JOB FOR MCCANN
McCann was pushing his case hard to be part of Rohl’s backroom team but missed out to Steven Smith.
In October he had his training kit washed and ironed for a Murray Park return but Kevin Muscat rejected the offer to manage the 2012 Tribute Act.
With David Dickinson refereeing last night’s match the outcome was never in doubt.
Since the start of December the Renfrew based official has refereed Rohl’s team four times. Each match has been dogged by penalty controversies. All going in a predictable fashion.
Discussing the fourth minute penalty and red card for Dom Thompson The Sun reports:
I would argue that he (Thompson) doesn’t see him coming and I felt that Gassama just slowed up and initiated the contact.
But that aside, I think that should be evened up in the second period.
There is clear contact on our striker, John-Jules, it’s James Tavernier who’s just caught on the opposite side.
When he turns, there’s complete contact on a player who’s on the turn.
He falls over. There’s no reason for him to go down.
I’m told then that it’s not enough contact.
I can’t understand that. There’s either contact on a player who’s in on goal or there’s not.
Not enough contact is not a good enough explanation.
With one win, one draw and three defeats in five matches McCann hasn’t delivered the managerial bounce that Kilmarnock anticipated.
The Ayrshire side are currently in the relegation play-off place, six points adrift of Dundee who have played one game less.
On Wednesday Kilmarnock are at home to St Mirren, an away win would take the Paisley side 10 clear of Killie with eight matches to be played before the split.
McCann isn’t expected to be part of BBC Scotland’s team at the World Cup Finals in the USA.
Major cut backs are expected at the broadcaster which sent a team of 15 presenters and pundits to the 2024 Euros in Germany. Backed up by over 50 technicians and producers. All funded by BBC licence payers.
Instead he will have a key role in Kenny Macintyre’s diverse team of Glasgow based experts including Cammy Bell, Andy Halliday, Billy Dodds, Kenny Miller, Leeann Crichton and Richard Foster.

The diminutive ‘ Terry ‘ was being fluffily interviewed by BBC Scottish version on Sportscene highlights when he said he has ‘ his own opinions ‘ on the sending off of his player ! Nobody asked him what they were ..or if the mic guy did , it was edited out ! The true meaning of ‘ all in it together .’ No danger .. job’s a good one !
Far too soft a reaction from him…
But in Kilmarnock attire he’d be banned for any comments…
The perfect cop out for the once Celtic supporting fanatic !
