Two weeks after making claims about Hearts players being assaulted at Celtic Park Pat Nevin has closed his X/Twitter account.
The former Scotland winger was covering the match for Five Live as Celtic dramatically clinched the SPFLtitle.
As everyone now knows no Hearts players were assaulted on the pitch.
Nevin’s claims were widely reported.
Despite the extensive coverage from Sky Sports there wasn’t a single incident of a Hearts player being attacked.
Frankie Kent did knock a phone out of the hand of a Celtic player then stamped on it. He was pushed as the fan tried to retrieve the phone.
And that was it.
ONLY IN THE IMAGINATION OF PAT NEVIN
Nevin’s media colleagues were desperate for any evidence of a Hearts player being assaulted.
Hearts released a statement based on ‘reports of’. Yes, reports coming from Nevin on BBC radio with no evidence to back up the claim.
Two weeks on they have given up looking.
Nevin hasn’t apologised. The BBC haven’t apologised. Nevin is scheduled to cover the World Cup for the BBC. No doubt he will be describing to radio listeners events that didn’t happen.
Looks like Pat Nevin has left twitter instead of just admitting he was wrong about seeing Hearts players getting assaulted

Nevin has always used his imagination for profit.
In one of his books he claimed that John Boyle offered to make him CEO of Celtic if Boyle was successful with a Takeover bid.
Boyle has denied both claims. One that he was looking to buy Celtic, two that he offered Nevin the job of CEO. Nevin was playing for Everton at the time.
During the 2011 Scottish Cup Final, Nevin told BBC viewers that he was about to become an anti-sectarian crusader. He would call out sectarian songs and chanting at every opportunity. Little has been heard since.
As well as books and media work Nevin tours the country sharing his hipster views on world events.
He rarely discusses his time as Motherwell CEO that took the club into administration.
Big money contracts were handed out to a number of players with Everton connection. Twenty years later no Motherwell player is earning what John Spencer and Tony Thomas.
Fortunately Boyle bailed Motherwell out taking an enormous financial hit. Nevin hasn’t worked again inside football or as a CEO.
He is however much loved by the British Broadcasting Corporation.
A Facebook note promoting an evening with the self indulgent bore in Dunoon claimed:
We are delighted to announce a new date for a special evening with Pat Nevin, the charismatic Glasgow-born winger, writer and DJ, including an audience Q&A. Pat Nevin is a former Clyde, Chelsea, Everton, Tranmere, Kilmarnock and Motherwell player as well as Scottish international. He also found time to be English PFA Chairman and Chief Executive at Motherwell while still playing.
A passionate alternative music fan who still DJs, there has also been a lifetime as a campaigner for social causes.
Over the last few years he has written The Sunday Times best seller, The Accidental Footballer and it’s follow up, Football and How to Survive it, documenting his life as an outsider within the game.
Pat Nevin was commenting on live footage where he clearly claims to have seen Shankland get punched several times. Utter lies. Celtic fans owed an apology.

It seems that wee weasel Pat Nevin has deleted his account in the past couple of hours, after being called out on his lies about Celtic fans assaulting Hearts players. https://t.co/ZVIqH2eGpz

He should be owning up that he made a mistake he took the cowards way out, he’ll probably say it’s because of abuse. When you make false claims and people know it you’ve got accept pushback, if he’d said he’d mis-saw or he’d been mistaken then fair play but he bottled it.

Never liked the sleazy wee shite. An absolutely dreadful pundit and commentator.

What are the chances of BBC Scottish version’s Alan Preston who screamed into the mic live the lie that ‘ Lawrence Shankland was being attacked ‘ over the far side of the pitch will be forced to apologise by his bosses …you know the ones that we as Licence fee payers employ with our subscriptions ? I think the World Cup build up will save his bacon on that score …as all roads will lead to North America and Me- hico !
