The Daily Record has hung star reporter Michael Gannon out to dry!
On Friday night Gannon rushed out the story that Kelechi Iheanacho was being paid £50,000 a week to sign for Bursanspor.
That EXCLUSIVE news came as Celtic’s transfer strategy under Michael Nicholson was being slaughtered.
This came on the follow up of admitting that he can’t handle agents. The Celtic CEO then missed out on Iheanacho to a Turkish Second Division side.
On Tuesday Record readers got a very different side to the story. The truth. From the horses mouth, directly from Bursanspor President Enes Celik. Known as Mr Celik within Turkish football.

These days the Record is a complete disaster zone.
On one hand they want to maintain their Celtic contacts with a drip feed of scoops. Gannon got the news in November that Celtic were in advanced talks to appoint Wilfried Nancy as manager. He then portrayed the French flop as a cross between peak Pep and Carlo Ancelotti.
In the real word the Record has evidence of how poorly Celtic are run from multiple angles. On a weekly basis there are examples of how badly the club operates and is viewed.
All of that falls on Nicholson but you will barely read any criticism of the £17,000 a week CEO in the pages of the Record.
Theres the Celtic board now being outted by Turkish 2nd division clubs as well as the player himself.
Nicholson and McKay can not continue in their positions.

There were no direct quotes from Celtic about Iheanacho’s wages. But Gannon and Josh McCafferty of the Herald ran takes of £50,000 and £47,000 a week from their sources. Following their boozy week in Albufeira.

Celtic have missed out on bringing back Kelechi Iheanacho after refusing to match the striker’s eye-watering wage demands.
The Nigerian ace has signed for Turkish climbers Bursaspor on a bumper three-year deal despite an offer on the table to remain at Parkhead.
Record Sport understands the Hoops balked at Iheanacho looking for a blockbuster package of £50k per week – way beyond the top earners at the club.
The Hoops offered the Double winning hero a two-year contract despite allowing the automatic one-year extension option to expire at the end of June.
But the ambitious Turkish second-tier outfit – who won promotion last term – stepped in offering big dosh to bag the 29-year-old on a three-year deal.

Iheanacho was the latest ‘greedy star’ trying to hold Celtic to ransom.
Thankfully CEO Nicholson refused to give in to those £50k a week on a three year deal.
Gannon appears to have accepted the words of his Celtic source as gospel.
Anyone worth their salt would have checked online to ensure that they weren’t being used, taken for a mug. Such as a check on Bursanspor finances or wage levels in the Turkish Second Division.
In November 2011 one of Gannon’s colleagues was caught out big style. A google check for ‘Motherwell born billionaire’ might have saved face, it might even have saved a financially distressed Scottish football club.
Since those giddy days of selling 290,000 copies a day circulation of the Record has shrunk towards 25,000. The digital edition doesn’t come near to covering costs. Alas the newspaper for real Scots is now printed in Oldham.

Are we really to believe that MG at the R****D is being drip fed info from inside Celtic Park, or are they so desperate for Celtic fans to buy their rag that they could possibly make this story up themselves , am I giving them too much credit , besides, any story that comes out after we miss out on targets is always automatically treated with contempt , we all know how this board tries to do business , & the likely outcome is always the same , we go in low , & if that bids rejected then we go in lower again , it’s a Masterstroke in incompetence , look forward to seeing all three again on the Trinity Tims Podcast . I am not one to defend the board, or the media, but it could be the case that for Celtic to give the equivalent of what we now know to be Ineacho’s wages, it would cost 50k per week, given the tax difference in the countries. Possibility?
Editor: Anything is possible when your idiot of a Chief Finance Officer gets stumped by the tax systems in Belgium and Germany. No need to make excuses for our useless Exec’s who won’t get a third of their current salaries in their next jobs.

The daily Record has Gannon’s work title down as Daily Record Sportswriter…ahem ! The other day I happened to notice on the back page of the Scottish daily Star ( I know ..I know ) , in the supermarket that Gannon had typed up a piece for the rags rag . I know most haemorrh..sorry ..tabloids are under the same ownership umbrella these dwindling sales days but it looked like Gannon was an ‘ exclusive ‘ daily Record scoop reporter employee …oh well ! I wonder if he’ll soon be Joe the Toff In the next installments of ‘cutting back ‘ by the newspaper ? Considering it has basically hung him out to dry by not supporting his latest piece of dreck reporting …would you be surprised ? As he was always keen to say in his columns… blimey!
