Ross the Everton fan reckons that Celtic are insignificant outside of Scotland.
To be fair, as an Everton fan he does have a strong insight into being insignificant.
Without a trophy win this century, Everton aspire to become the Espanyol of their home city.
A Derby win every now and then is celebrated as the big breakthrough. Outside of Merseyside no-one cares for the second team in Liverpool.
Of course with the annual £100m payment from Sky Sports Everton fans can delude themselves.
They can buy players at fees way more than Celtic and offer three or four times the salaries on offer at Scotland’s most successful club.
Alistair Johnston is a transfer target. Everton fans are comparing him to Nathan Patterson- that is like comparing Jeremie Frimpong with James Tavernier.
Everton had their day in the mid eighties. A couple of league titles, a few FA Cup wins and the very welcome and celebrated 1985 Cup Winners Cup win over Rapid Vienna.
Beyond that there is nothing. Not even decent football, or even watchable players.
Last season, on loan from Manchester City Jack Grealish got the full superstar treatment.
Celtic are insignificant outside Scotland , it’s that simple, do you genuinely think Celtic have a bigger fan base than Everton or are a bigger club?

God love you, Ross.

Ross seems to base his claim on social media likes. Even Celtic fans opt out of following the dull, sanitised content served up by the club.
That is partly due to the quality and width of Celtic fan media. In terms of websites and podcasts Celtic are far bigger and better followed.
Ryan 118 has 58,000 subscribers. ACSOM has 42,000 subscribers.
AI lists popular Everton podcasts including The Blue Room which has 5,690 subscribers! The Toffee Blues has 17,300 subscribers
Well as a evertonian I hate to break it to you that Everton have far more followers on social media than Celtic on every single platform , how else can you calculate a fan base ?
— Ross EFC (@ross_efc1878) July 31, 2026
Viewing figures on Sky Sports and Instagram likes are the fall-back option for deluded Ross.
Your deluded mate, viewer figures in the spl tell you otherwise, aswell as social media followings . If your that big why does nobody watch Celtic on tele ?

A whole range of issues come together to define the size of a club. Nothing is definite.
EVERTON- THE NOTHING CLUB OF THE 21ST CENTURY
But by every non-digital metric Celtic are far bigger than Everton. Celtic probably have bigger reach than in terms of real people than any EPL club except Manchester United and Liverpool.
Both of those clubs have had real periods of domestic domination and European success.
But you won’t find many pubs and bars across Spain dedicated to either club. You might in Singapore or Seoul.
Celtic has a network of supporter clubs across Europe and North America. All generated by fans, not a PR exercise.
Even in London Celtic are bigger than Everton. A dozen venues promote themselves as pubs where Celtic fans are welcomed and catered for.
There are locals drawn to Celtic as well as hundreds of fans from Scotland and Ireland drawn to the English capital.
No-one in London cares for Everton. They are just another EPL club, just like Bournemouth, Brighton, Coventry, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest.
Don’t back down Ross, double down.
Because fan base isn’t based on social media likes ya donut. Look up how many Celtic supports clubs there are in the world compared to Everton
