Cameron Carter-Vickers is 10 days away from being available to play again for Celtic.
The case of the defender has become an intriguing one over the last four weeks.
During an interview with Sky Sports following the defeat in the September 20 Glasgow Derby Carter-Vickers mentioned the random nature of Celtic’s tactics.
That comment made a few headlines going into the international break.
While previewing Celtic’s match at Motherwell O’Neill disputed that claim while revealing that Carter-Vickers missed training due to a strain.
There seemed to be a chance that the former Spurs man would be ready to face Benfica but tonight that notion was firmly ended.
Asked about a return date for Carter-Vickers The Herald reports O’Neill saying:
He’s injured. It’s very difficult to play a player when he’s injured. I think they are talking about another ten days, in which we’ll probably have 15 games!
Celtic have four matches in the next 10 days.
Against Benfica, Hearts, Celta Vigo and Hibs.
Following that there is a home match against Dundee United on October 28.
After starting all 12 matches of the season Carter-Vickers missed the match at Motherwell with Dane Murray stepping in.
It looks like Murray could be involved at least for the next couple of matches.
Liam Scales and Auston Trusty are the other available central defenders with the Irishman also providing cover at left-back for Kieran Tierney.
O’Neill will be hoping that there are no further injuries to his defenders through the next few matches.
Celtic have eight matches to get through before the November international break following the November 8 game against Kilmarnock.
