Freddie Ljungberg- Ready to push on from here

|

Freddie LjungbergFreddie Ljungberg was satisfied with his Celtic debut as he helped the hoops into the 5th round of the Scottish Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win away to Berwick Rangers.

The former Arsenal hero had little opportunity to shine on a difficult pitch which made close control almost impossible.

Ljungberg did show a few moments of inspiration- noticably a 23rd minute pass to Georgios Samaras that opened up the Berwick defence- and looked sharp after two months out of football.

He said: “It was a difficult game with the conditions but I’ve played in games like this in the past in England and the important thing is that the team played together and got the job done.

“The pitch didn’t help the way that we try to play, but in my opinion we try to play the right way and can have great success.

“Normally I can get fit quite quickly. We talked before the game about getting 45 or 60 minutes today and at 60 I felt ok so I’m going to push on from there.

“The team spirit is very good, I could see that as soon as I got here. The quality of the players in the squad is great and I want to help them to do great things.

“When I first came here we were behind Rangers then we beat Rangers which made a big difference, the pressure is maybe on them although they have some games in hand

Celtic boss Neil Lennon added: “The game time will do Freddie the world of good. It wasn’t a great game for him to come into, it was difficult but it’ll boost his fitness levels.

“The more that he trains and plays the better he’ll get.”
