Bristol City and Ipswich Town are both tracking former Celtic skipper Stephen McManus.
Tony Mowbray is looking to cut costs at the Riverside Stadium with McManus one of the top earners after signing for Gordon Strachan in 2010.
McManus hasn’t featured in the Middlesbrough side for two months and isn’t short of admirers in the Championship.
“There is a lot going on,” Mowbray admitted discussing the transfer window. I am trying to create space. Certain areas of this team need strengthening and in other areas we have a few players.
“If we get an offer that we think is a good offer, and we feel we could use his salary elsewhere, then those things have to be done. But we will not be jeopardising what we already have.
“We need to create some space in the budget to move things around. I have no problem with the people that are not impacting on the first XI moving on.
“If it suits us financially and suits the player then that is football. I will be very loath to lose a player who is playing his part every week.
“It is a fine balancing act for us. We probably do need some funds to bring players in but not by selling the wrong ones.”

He is not!! He is exactly the same as them. when you watch him your just waiting for his mistake to happen like loovens!
He wasn’t good enough 2 years ago and he ain’t good enough just now. For some strange reason when ex or current players are not in the team they seem to get better in most peoples eyes?
He was dragged down by the likes of Loovens and Caldwell.
As a old fashioned CB he is better yhan anyone we have now, though Rogne will hopefully be way way better!
I would have to disagree, Caldwell plays in the EPL not the championship and he is a regular for the Scottish national team.
Caldwell is no great shake in my eyes but he is better than big Mick. Majstorovic is also better than McManus as well, big Dan is not great either but he was coming on to a game before his face caved in!!
McManus has found his level and there he will stay.
I think with todays signing all this talk has become redundant anyway
Good luck to big Mick, wherever the future may take him. A honest big lad who always gave his best for the Celtic cause.
He epitomised everything about our club when he had to ‘perform’ the duties of a Celtic captain around the time of Tommy Burns’ death RIP.
He shouldered that responsibility with great humility and passion and spoke lovingly about a true and great Celt.
