VVV Venlo are hoping to kick start a bidding war for Georgios Giakoumakis.

The striker has been strongly linked with Celtic over the last week, apparently attracting the personal attention of Ange Postecoglou as he looks for additional striking options.

Despite being relegated last season Venlo had the top scorer in the Eredivisie with little prospect of Giakoumakis playing in the second tier this season.

Until his move to Venlo the 26-year-old had never scored prolifically but with 11 days left of the transfer window Venlo CEO Marco Bogers told The Sun:

Celtic and Werder Bremen have officially approached us but there are more clubs now showing interest, so the game isn’t over yet. We expect even more clubs to be in touch.

It must be a good deal for all parties. Everyone must benefit from it. Georgios must have the right feeling about the club and we do have a price in mind that must be put on the table.

It is clear that after relegation and a year of Co**d, our financial situation will not get any rosier. A transfer is not an absolute necessity, but it would be better for all parties if it happens.

Kyogo Furuhashi has made a stunning start to his Celtic career with six goals from five starts as Postecoglou’s side struck a winning run of five matches on the bounce.

The future of Odsonne Edouard is far from secure while Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths seem to be on the margins of Celtic’s plans.

Potecoglou has made five signings so far but no one has arrived since the double deals for James McCarthy and Joe Hart 18 days ago.
