Ange Postecoglou has given an update on the injury suffered by Callum McGregor against Alloa Athletic on Saturday night.

The Celtic skipper took a first half blow to the face that required lengthy treatment before he was substituted by James McCarthy.

With injuries to Kyogo Furuhashi and David Turnbull at the same time as Tom Rogic and Daizen Maeda go off on international duty it leaves Postecoglou with very limited options ahead of three vital SPFL  matches in an eight day period that will go a long way to deciding whether Celtic can mount a title challenge.

I think that he is better today, he wasn’t in great shape straight after the game. Obviously the injury, probably, he had a slight concussion as well so he wasn’t in a great shape.

But I exchanged messages with him yesterday, he feels a bit better which is great and hopefully his recovery doesn’t take too long .

At the time did you fear the worst?

Yes, I think that you always do. Knowing the type of character that Callum is, for him to stay down, to be fair he didn’t go all the way down, you could see that he was trying to stay up. He was, he’s as brave as they come so for him to come off I knew it was something significant.

There is no specific mention of an injury or timeline for how long McGregor will be out of action.

The injury has been heavily debated since Saturday and is bound to feature at tomorrow’s media conference when Postecoglou previews Wednesday’s match against Hearts.
