Keith Jackson reckons that Micky Beale has a few quid to spend this summer.

In football parlance that equates to being able to buy a few players but it looks like it could be taken literally with the Ibrox boss down to his last few quid to fund his Revolution.

Things started promisingly enough when Kieran Dowell was announced as a signing before the final home game of the season, unfortunately injury prevented the former Norwich star from taking a bow in front of the fans.

Dujon Sterling and Jack Butland were next up, joining as free agents as an indicator of how little Beale has to spend on his squad.

On June 15 Sam Lammers was signed from Atalanta for a reported fee of £3.5m with the Italian club delighted to get rid of the ‘striker’ after three seasons sent out on loan.

Now with two full working days to go before pre-season training starts at Murray Park transfer business has ground to a halt.

Just four new faces are likely to clock-in on Friday where they’ll meet up with John Lundstram, Kemar Roofe, Ben Davies, Scott Wright and the rest of last season’s flops. Glen Kamara, Borna Barisic and Ianis Hagi have extra time off after being on international duty.

Underneath the media hype the squad has been seriously weakened but that isn’t the message to send out to bears celebrating another Close Season Cup success.

As part of their Monday Morning Jury the Record asked:

Rangers are understood to be in the running to land Abdallah Sima on loan or permanent deal from Brighton, would the frontman be a good addition?

Keith: Michael Beale has already said he prefers not to bring in players on loan deals. Rangers appear to have a few quid to spend this summer and most of that money has been ring fenced for a striker. It would be a surprise if it wasn’t splashed out on a permanent signing.

Failed bids for Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Anastasios Douvikas give a clearer picture of the ‘few quid’ that is available to Beale.

With no Sporting Director the Ibrox boss will have to find takers for his dead-wood while taking pre-season training and looking into the eyes of his signing targets.

It must be heart breaking for Sevco to look at us with BR in place & a couple of additions for the future already in. Their ‘war chest’ will inevitably be less than we spend on 1 player. The phrase ‘mind the gap’ needs updated as it is a chasm the size of the grand canyon in terms of finances. I feel so sorry for theRangers fans……..aye right!

Jackson revealing the details of that infamous Ibrox warchest…?

Is it a plastic, foldable crate from IKEA – in Ibrox blue of course?

Does it contain – only – a crumpled, old “IOU” note for £10M,

and signed by one, Craig Whyte?

    From The Guardian, May 2011;

“…[Whyte] had initially committed to £5m of funding for new players this summer,

with that figure doubled after complaints from the Rangers board…” 🙂

Seems that the warchest remains empty of cash?
