The Daily Record is gently bracing their army of Ibrox fan readers for a big transfer let down.
Lewis Ferguson isn’t about to lead Derek McInnes’ Staunch Revolution.
Fans can console themselves with the news this morning that Allan McGregor is returning as goalkeeping coach. Despite having no coaching qualifications.
The Record has been at the forefront of the good news over Ferguson.
Throughout June they came up with a flow of tales that a deal was on the way.
Despite knowing that a fee of around £20m and wages of at least £3m a year the Record has been on the case.
They even got Bill McMurdo to explain that Ferguson will one day play for the club that released him as a teenager.
It seems that that day won’t be in 2027.
Fortunately McInnes has signed five players for the Record to drool over.
Now they are gently breaking it to their readers that Bologna are taking a ‘hard line’ to the transfer fee. Such as demanding market value!
The Rossoblu has made it clear that it would take a major bid for them to even consider selling.
Ibrox sources have admitted it would be a challenge. The World Cup star has been linked with the likes of Roma and Atalanta with the fees being quoted around the £17 million mark.
Not half a challenge. Not even throwing in Danilo is going to make £6m offer over six years seem attractive.
It remains to be seen if Rangers could get into that ball park.
It could help if they were to sell Belgian Nico Raskin or Mohamed Diomande. The Italian press have claimed that Rangers have opened talks with Ferguson.
Work is on going on behind the scenes. Ferguson is no stranger to Rangers boss Derek McInnes after took him from Hamilton to Aberdeen and helped to launch his career.
Ferguson has become a key player for Bologna. He is now one of their captains and skippered them to Italian Cup glory in 2025.
They rate him highly and will want top dollar. Rangers have already snapped up his former Aberdeen team mate Ross McCrorie.
Young McCrorie cost £16m less than the fee that Bologna are looking for for Ferguson.
The Record is now expected to slowly drop their Ferguson fantasy. It did a job keeping the Gullible & Deluded distracted through June.
£17M is a bargain for our new captain

Aye The Good Old Scummy Record again then !
A rival to their club newspaper The Sevco View or whatever they call it at Liebrox these days…
On another off topic subject Joe, if you’re in touch with James Forrest at The Celtic Blog I’m still reading daily of course but not been able to post since 26th June as it won’t let me post with JavaScript off and with JavaScript on the Post Comment option freezes as does the rest of the sight…
So very frustrating as I’m missing ma rants although I’m sure Sevco Hun Hoard lurkers certainly won’t be !
I think they’ll get it done, just offer £17m paid over 17 years, simples………..
