Celtic’s transfer plans or strategy is increasingly coming in for ridicule.
During two transfer windows in 2026 the hoops haven’t made a single permanent signing.
It is doubtful if there is a top flight club anywhere in Europe that hasn’t signed a player in the calendar year.
It is absolutely cast iron guaranteed that no club in Europe would pay an executive team of Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay £1.5m a year.
Since January 5 Celtic have been without a Head of Football Operations.
The January loan signings followed a familiar depressing pattern. Martin O’Neill quickly side-lined them, turned to a core of 14 players and delivered a dramatic double success.
Last week Celtic were linked with Tjark Ernst from Hertha Berlin in Bundesliga II.
Today, with no progress made towards signing Ernst ‘attention’ has switched to the Spanish second flight.
Meet Dinko Horkas of Las Palmas, the club from Gran Canaria.
Celtic ‘in four-way fight for goalkeeper’ amid warning from club president about interested teams getting off to ‘bad start’
— Scottish Sun Sport (@scotsunsport) July 1, 2026
Apparently Las Palmas are looking for £6-8m for the goalkeeper that they picked up as a free agent from Bulgaria two years ago.
With Scott McKenna and Ollie McBurnie in the side Las Palmas were relegated from La Liga at the end of the 24/25 season. Horkas played in 13 matches, losing 19 goals.
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH CELTIC RECRUITMENT?
Last season Horkas played in 43 matches and lost 41 goals as Las Palmas lost out in the La Liga Play Off.
Halfway through a contract signed as a La Liga player Las Palmas are looking to sell the goalkeeper.
Clubs and agents know that they can insert Celtic’s name into lists of clubs ‘keeping tabs’ and ‘monitoring events’ without any contradiction.
With no recognisable recruitment structure Celtic are likely sifting through recommendations from favoured agents before deciding who to sign.
That process brought Joel Mvuka and Junior Adamu to the club in January.
On June 11 in an in-house interview Brian Wilson spoke about a busy couple of weeks coming up. Most fans know how to treat the promises and pledges of a former Labour MP.

The only certainty is that the much needed “squad re-build” is just not happening this summer.
The Board is playing its own game, [whatever the Hell that is],
but if we don’t qualify for the CL proper, then the supporters – quite rightly – will kick off.
The start of a new season, but with the same frustrations, mistrust and more protests to come…?
The other side of the coin is a much better scenario for theRangers from those loyal daily Record scoops ..big Gav the deputy to be specific . He’s got an imaginary Dream XI Ibroxland team ready for action in a perfect world under the latest head coacher guy in McInnes . He’s sure that the tribute actis spending £17 million sovs on the dream like squad . All this imagery from the’ Sport Desk ‘ of the dwindling tabloid on a Wet Wednesday in July just warms the old cockles …dinnit? In other words …look out now ..this is the proper Govanlandia revolution !
